Advent is here and with it comes the Jesse Tree. The Jesse Tree is
named from Isaiah 11:1: "A shoot will spring forth from the stump of
Jesse, and a branch out of his roots." It tells the Story of God in the Old
Testament. It connects today's Advent Season with the faithfulness of
God across 4,000 years of history. This year the Mini Vinnies worked
to create ornaments for the tree.
First Sunday of Advent
The ornaments are symbols of our faith. This week you will find stars,
candles, lilies, doves, apples, and shells. The symbols represent people
and events from the Old Testament:
Dove - God, Creation
Apple - Adam and Eve, the first sin
Ark - Noah, the Flood
Star - Abraham, the Promise
Scallop Shell - John the Baptist, Repentance
Lily - Mary, the Hope for a Future
The next meeting of the Mini Vinnies will be on Sunday, 14
December in Carr Hall after the 10:30 Mass. All middle school aged
students are invited to join us for food, fun, and fellowship.

For in each of our neighbors we see the face of God. Who are our
neighbors? Our neighbors are all other human beings.
Through your generous support of SSVdP’s Food For Families

spiritual encouragement to your neighbors. In behalf of our neighbors
that we serve in your name, we thank all of our parishioners and
friends.
SSVdP Food For Families currently has 184 neighbors signed up- with
812 neighbors living in the homes , is providing 116 backpacks of food
to children neighbors in the Florence Independent School District, is
serving 40 neighbors at our pantry each scheduled day, is delivering

Gospel Meditation
Take some time to ask yourself, “Am I prepared for the Lord’s
return?” What might you need to change to be ready?
Tómese el tiempo de preguntarse a sí mismo(a), "¿Estoy
preparado(a) para el regreso del Señor?" ¿Qué puede ser que
usted necesite cambiar para estar listo(a)?
Catholic Social Teaching Corner
Advent invites us to watch for the coming of the Lord: to be
awake and vigilant. The Lord breaks into our world and into our
lives in unexpected ways, as he did in Bethlehem. Today he may
come in the face, the voice, the need of a stranger, or a child, or
the poor, or our own family. We place ourselves, this day and
this season, in an attitude of quiet, prayerful hope-filled
expectation, so that in the frantic busying of life, we will not
miss the Master’s coming. What can you do this week to be
awake and vigilant for the Lord?
El Adviento nos invita a esperar la llegada del Señor: a estar
despiertos y vigilantes.

judge the living and the dead.
Purple = prayer, penance, and preparation.
The liturgical color violet is used to signify a time of
penance, sacrifice, and prayer. Lit during the first,
