Greer Education Center, Board Room 2832 E. Flamingo Road, Las Vegas, NV 89121 District F: F-TROOP Dear District F Constituents, Parents, Staff, Students and Friends: One year ago the Board had just appointed Trustee Stavan Corbett to the Board to fulfill the remaining term for Lorraine Alderman. Today, it is with great sadness that I bid adios to Trustee Corbett after he lost his bid for election. Trustee Corbett brought great insight to his job and taught us all to stay focused on students. He will be missed. Newly elected to the Board for District D and joining us in January is Kevin Child. I look forward to getting to know Mr. Child and to working with him. School zone changes are being considered for some District F schools to relieve overcrowding. There are possible changes to Blue Diamond, Forbuss, Frias, Ober, Reedom and Wright Elementary Schools and Canarelli, Fais, Fertitta, Guinn, Lawrence, Sawyer, and Tarkanian Middle/Junior High Schools. Please go to: azac.ccsd.net and click on 'AZAC Scenarios' to see the possible changes. All AZAC meetings are open to the public and your input is important. There will also be public input meetings in January prior to the committee making recommendations to the superintendent. The Board makes the final decisions on school zone changes. The date for the meeting has not been set yet, but I will get that information to you in my January newsletter. In order to allow more time for area residents to express their views on this subject, the survey deadline has been extended to December 11, 2014. The District will present parent input from the survey to the Board of Trustees separately from community input, and is asking parents to provide a student ID to differentiate parents with a child currently in school from a community member with no children in school. Foothill High School Marching Band CCSD Unveils Baseline Data for New District Scorecard CCSD Board of Trustees Community Linkage Meeting took place in November The scorecard measures six indicators of success that are derived from the Pledge of Achievement action plan outlined by Skorkowsky last spring. The scorecard sets ambitious targets the school district will work to reach over the next five years. On November 19, the CCSD Board of Trustees held a Community Linkage meeting at the Las Vegas Paiute Tribe Reservation. Thank you to the members of the Paiute Tribe for hosting this event. The Board of School Trustees will use the goals in the scorecard as part of their annual evaluation of Skorkowsky starting in December 2015, after the first full year of implementation. Magnet Schools and CTAs Community Event The scorecard, which is available to the public at www.ccsd.net/district/district-scorecard, will be updated each year to show the school district's progress in each indicator area. Congratulations to Foothill High School Marching Band representing Nevada in this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Parents and members of the community who are interested in getting more information about the Pledge of Achievement action plan and the scorecard measuring the progress of the plan can take the pledge and sign up for updates at www.pledgeofachievement.com.
