Doorbuilder Goes Direct
Apeer’s design and order software system for retailers now features a
direct-to-factory order link. Doorbuilder Direct, as the updated system
is called, has been successfully trialled with customers and is now
available for download. Said Apeer marketing manager Linda Tomb:
“We’ve seen a phenomenal take-up rate for the updated system – within
just a few days of launching Doorbuilder Direct, 43% of our order intake
was going direct to the factory. Our IT department is contacting customers
to talk them through what to do – and in some cases, even doing it for
them remotely.”
As well as the new direct-to-factory order link, the updated programme
also features: All size updates; Bar pull handles for Apeer 44 and Apeer 70
restrictions are now in place; It displays available thresholds when sizes are entered; There is an alert message
facility for top/arch with coupling; And an order cloning facility has also been added along with other general
fixes and improvements. i

Bowater Doors has splashed out on a vast, new
colour offering - the company's range is now available in hundreds of colours. Ops Manager, Anita van
Vuuren explains: “We can now offer doors in any RAL colour
and they can even be matched to a colour of the customer's
choice. This allows homeowners to choose a shade to reflect their
personality and create a unique look for their home. It also means
that architects and specifiers in the commercial market can choose
specific colours to fit with the overall project and even match the
colours of their branding.
“Doors can be different on each side - darker on the outside and
subtle on the inside for example. There is also the option to colour
the frames to match.”
Lead times are currently 15 days. Doors are covered by a ten
year guarantee. i system10aluminium.co.uk
Aztec Windows is
the latest company to sign-up as
an affiliate supplier to window
industry
standards organisation,
Network
Veka. The Coventry
based company fabricates high-spec products from The Veka UK Group - the use of
which is a pre-requisite for Network Veka's 150-strong membership.
One product that particularly factored in Aztec's affiliate membership is Halo's FlushSash system (pictured in situ) which, while
faithful to the appearance of traditional wooden framed windows, provides all the modernday benefits of PVC-U replacements.
John Ogilvie, MD of Network Veka, says: “Our members are
keen to promote and sell products from The Veka UK Group. The
FlushSash window through Aztec is a good example of this.”
Aztec, which recently celebrated its 25th year of trading, was
the first Halo customer to begin fabricating the FlushSash system.
The Network instantly saw the potential in FlushSash, especially
for properties situated in conservation areas where authentic
looks are all-important. i networkveka.co.uk
Composite Door CNC fabricators can now make seven popular door
styles from just one door blank with the latest from DoorCo - the 6/4
Combi which has a midrail with the woodgrain pattern running
through from top to bottom, enabling it to be made into any of the
following styles: Six Panel Solid; Twin Vertical; Twin Top; Twin Top
with Mid Panel; Half Glazed; Full Glazed; Four Glazed (twin and bottom).
This not only makes the door extremely versatile but also drastically cuts the need for stock, as DoorCo MD Dan Sullivan explains:
“Stock is always a challenge for all door fabricators especially for
the lower volume fabricators because of the range of options available. The 6/4 Combi brings together seven of the most popular styles
while taking up less space, tying up less money and simplifying
ordering and invoicing." i capstonedoor.co.uk

Weru Weatherproofed
tremco illbruck has provided a sealing system for Weru Windows that
is able to help installations meet the higher levels of the Code for Sustainable Homes as well as achieving excellent airtightness in other situations.
Weru MD Graham Lindsay explains: “I have dealt with tremco over the years for the
supply of standard sealing products but I have to admit that when we took on the
dealership for Internorm, I was sceptical that anything could come up to the
specification. Basically being on the coast, and used to very windy conditions, I didn’t
see how such a simple-to-use, site-applied sealing system could keep out the weather.”
The first project which they tackled was a private house in Knutsford, Cheshire.
Compriband 600 was specified as the external weather seal, closing gaps from 3-30
mm. Illbruck FM 230 expanding foam was then employed as a secondary seal that
also offers excellent thermal insulation to counter cold bridging.
Weru Windows has used the same products for a large project in Stockport,
involving a timber frame building and tremco illbruck’s i3 system remains an option for
future, even more demanding installations. i tremco-illbruck.co.uk
Bletchley Park has this
year completed an £8million Heritage Lottery
Fund financed restoration project to create a
world-class
heritage
site. Mike Honour Windows worked with Fairhurst
Ward Abbotts to remove the
windows to the workshop
where they were renovated
over an extensive threemonth period.
Along with the windows,
the ironmongery, including
handles and stays, was carefully salvaged and renovated. Once
each window unit was complete, it was hot-dip galvanized. A high
quality polyester powder coat finish was then applied in a colour
carefully matched to exactly the original bright green of the war
time period.
The refurbished windows were reinstalled into the Block C
building by the team from Mike Honour Windows. Rather than the
glazing being fitted with silicone as is normal today, each pane of
glass was face puttied into the metal frame in the traditional way
from outside. i steel-window-association.co.uk

Halo fabricator YWC Group has announced successful BSI testing and accreditation for its mobility
threshold Secured by Design French door.
The project brought together technically-advanced Halo profile with the input of threshold manufacturer Stormguard and
global window security experts Avantis Hardware to create a
doorset that complies with all current BSI criteria while providing
unhindered floor-level access – crucial for wheelchair users and
people with mobility difficulties.
YWC Group Director Kevin Taylor initiated the project which
he envisages as one of many collaborative developments
between the three respective stakeholders. YWC's Technical
and Quality Manager, Bill Hellewell and Production Manager,
Dave Pullen were also instrumental in the venture, from the point
of concept through to delivering
the final product for BSI testing.
The company was confident the

All Weather Sealing
ISO-CONNECT Vario SD humidity regulating foil has been used
to achieve air tightness of less than 0.6 air changes/hour to
comply with Passivhaus standards at the new Hastoe Housing
Association’s Ditchingham scheme in Norfolk.
The foil was specified by window installer Sidey Ltd UK because of its ability
to provide rapid and effective year round high performance sealing of window and door reveals. The foil is part of a new generation of window sealing
products that not only adapt to seasonal variations, but also provide an excellent external weather seal that surpasses UK Building Regulations for air tightness in domestic and commercial buildings when used as
an internal seal, as well as sealing against wind driven rain to Hurricane forces.
Dan Higginbotham, associate at project architects Parsons and Whittley, says: “Vario SD is a very good overall product providing
excellent air tightness qualities. “Cost savings were also achieved using the foil when compared to the sealing product originally considered for the scheme, a vapour resistant plaster sealing tape.”
ISO-CONNECT Vario SD will bond to virtually any substrate and guarantee the airtight and weather tight integrity and is part of
the ISO3 3-level sealing system, which comes with a 10 year guarantee. i

our own Nan Ya door blanks. after discussing our requirements
with SCM's Area Sales Manager, Ian McCarthy, and having a

Solidor have unveiled a new deep nose cill that is available in nine finishes complete with matching foiled end caps.
The Radlington is perfect for the replacement door market and is a
modern interpretation of a traditional timber cill, with similar dimensions, yet it also offers a traditional appearance for any new build project. Traditional timber cills were deep and usually aligned with a
course of bricks and often these did vary in height, while metric bricks
are generally 65mm high.
For these reasons, The Radlington has been designed and engineered
55mm high, with a projection of 165mm, allowing for packing, expansion, baypole jacks and irregular mortar. The first installations have
shown that it is far quicker to install on site and a more robust cill
option than a standard 30mm high by 150mm projection cill, which is designed more with PVCu windows
in mind. Then cill is available for the existing Solidor range in nine finishes including white, foiled white,
cream, Chartwell Green, Irish Oak, golden oak, rosewood, grey, Schwarzbraun black. i solidor.co.uk

Apeer has produced
two new guides to fitting the company’s
double rebate, triple
glazed doors.
The guides are designed
to help seasoned fitters with
step by step, illustrated fitting instructions to make the
job easier for them - and to
maximise benefits for the
homeowner.
The new manuals cover
installation of both the door
and frame – and door and
sidelight.
Apeer composite doors feature a high density polyurethane core
which offers a higher level of strength and insulation compared to traditional doors. The double rebate system – a ‘lip’ on the vertical edge
where the door meets the frame – adds additional draught protection by
creating an internal secondary seal.
Its toughened, triple glazed window panels are also highly insulated
and come complete with a Q Seal warm edge Super Spacer system
which significantly improves long-term durability, energy efficiency, condensation resistance and sound transmission.
The manuals are now available for download on the Apeer website
www.apeer.co.uk. Hard copy formats are planned for next year, as are
separate
