Active Isolated Stretching: Upper Body applies the Mattes AIS Technique
to the upper body. It is beneficial for multiple conditions including neck
injury, pain, stiffness, torticollis, SCM difficulties, limited range of motion
of neck and shoulders, chronic conditions of the shoulder girdle, shoulder
rotator cuff injury, and much more. Enroll in this workshop and learn to
address 70% of your clients’ complaints: neck and shoulder injury, pain
and discomfort.
Over the past few decades many experts have advocated that stretching
should last up to 60 seconds. This prolonged static stretching technique
was the gold standard. However, prolonged static stretching actually
decreases the blood flow within the tissue creating localized ischemia and
lactic acid buildup. This can potentially cause irritation or injury similar to
the effects and consequences of trauma and overuse syndromes.
The Mattes AIS Technique is an effective treatment for deep and superficial fascial release, restoring proper fascial planes for optimal physiologic
function. Performing an Active Isolated Stretch of no longer than 2 seconds
allows the target muscle to optimally lengthen without triggering the
protective stretch reflex and subsequent reciprocal antagonistic muscle contraction as the isolated muscle achieves a state of relaxation. These stretches
provide maximum benefit and can be accomplished without opposing
tension or resulting trauma.
This course is ideal for anyone trained in bodywork and manual therapies,
or fitness professionals including massage and bodywork therapists, athletic
trainers, and physical therapists. Active Isolated Stretching is beneficial for
reducing pain, stiffness, chronic musculoskeletal conditions, and limited
range of motion. It is an excellent system for massage and shiatsu therapists to integrate into their sessions with clients. Participants will receive a

Are you looking for a new skill to add to your bodywork practice? Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, non-invasive, hands-on method for correcting problems in the Craniosacral system in which the brain and spinal
cord function. Using a light touch, practitioners work through clothing,
assessing and releasing restrictions in the Craniosacral and fascial systems
throughout the body to improve the functioning of the whole person. CST
encourages the body’s natural healing mechanisms to dissipate the negative effects of stress, and improve the body’s internal environment. CST is
increasingly used as a preventive measure for its ability to bolster resistance
to disease, and is effective for a wide range of common problems.

spinal fluid, and especially those with:
Chi Nei Tsang abdominal massage clears intestinal blockages and constipation, helps digestion, improves metabolism, accesses and releases the psoas
muscle to aid in release of low back pain, stimulates the nervous system,

You’ve asked for it and now it’s here, a continuing education class taught
by the dynamic duo of Andrea Sullivan and Andrej Peterka! This class is
designed for therapeutic bodyworkers and acupuncturists to learn how to
utilize three additional therapeutic tools: Ion Cords, Japanese polar magnets and tuning forks. These techniques increase the physical and energetic
effects on organs and musculo-skeletal conditions. Different from a meridian focused treatment approach, these tools can be used to treat regions and
zones of the body.
Ion cords work on the principle that Qi follows electrical flow. The polar
magnets are effective to stimulate points and tissue and allows the treatment to continue long beyond the session. Tuning forks support the movement of energy through frequency and sound.
In this class you will learn:
• Why some conditions are best addressed on feet or hands
• Traditional Thumb-Walking
• Non-traditional techniques to save your thumbs
• Condition specific protocols
• Add-on techniques such as foot soaks, paraffin dips and aromatherapeutic lotions
• Basic Aromatherapy with specific application to energetic Chakra
points on the feet
In this class you will:
• Learn how to use Ion Cords, Japanese polar magnets and tuning forks
for therapeutic benefit
• Practice how to apply these tools to specific acu-points and soft tissue
to achieve greater balance and function
• Understand the significance of the Extraordinary Vessels relative to
body zones, organs and vital substances
In addition, students are introduced to Aromatherapy with Essential Oils

Sunday, February 15 • 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Tuition: $115 • Register by January 30
Materials fee: $11 + tax
Total Hours: 6
NCBTMB: 6 CE hours
Prerequisite: Prior training in bodywork therapy.
Please bring two twin flat sheets, 1 pillowcase or face cradle cover, a hair band and
writing materials.
GuaSha is also known as “dermal friction”, and is a scraping technique
used on the surface of the skin, to improve microcirculation and bring
more blood and Qi to an area. It is an excellent technique for a bodyworker
therapist’s toolbox because the moving of blood and Qi penetrates to internal viscera, allowing for a significant decrease in muscle stiffness and pain.
Gua Sha, used routinely, enhances immunity and treats over 30 common
diseases without the use of drugs. The technique is accomplished by using
a special piece of bone or stone, called a medical board, on slightly oiled
skin.
Through HeartMind Shiatsu, you will learn to integrate the thinking mind
with the feeling mind, giving you the power needed to heal emotional
trauma, quiet the incessant mental chatter, allow true inner peace to grow
and to become clear channels of universal unconditional love.
This engaging and challenging practical course teaches the proper body
mechanics and execution of leveraged lifts and specialized stretches. Students learn to move the body in a bold and confident manner to elevate the
receiver off the floor and facilitate personal transformation.
In this course you will learn and experience:
• The artful use of body weight in motion for creating optimal pressure
and contact
• The principle of No Pressure and Point of Contact
• Personal alignment and power concentrating exercises with
Interactive partner practices
• An introduction to Meridians 12 Qigong
• Connected and healing touch through movement using leverage, relaxed body weight and mother/messenger hand communication
• How HeartMind Shiatsu techniques activate and harmonize Jing, Qi,
Shen, Moisture and Blood
• Releasing and opening the Extraordinary Vessel flows through the
Flying HearMind Shiatsu movements
• Safety, proper body mechanics and contraindications for the Flying
HeartMind Shiatsu techniques
• The Flying techniques of bolstered stretches, flowing movements and
dramatic lifts for powerful therapeutic benefit
“Gua” means to scrape or rub, and “Sha” is the term used to describe the
appearance of a faint pink or red rash, also known as petechiae, intentionally raised by the technique. Once discounted as only a popular folk therapy,
Gua Sha in this modern world has its newfound usefulness as a facial enhancement technique, which has inspired its revival. This class will provide
an entire facial enhancement protocol as well as body techniques.
Upon completion of this class, you will be able to describe the usefulness
of GuaSha to a client, implement the technique effectively for maximum
results and understand all benefits and contraindications. This is an excellent adjunct therapy that can be easily integrated into to your massage or
shiatsu practice.

The art of Indian Head Massage is an Ayurvedic form of healing and
relaxation used to ease tension and balance energy. Ayurvedic philosophy
holds a belief that if energy isn’t moving freely, it can cause an imbalance
in the flow resulting is discomfort. Beginning with the head, a variety of
massage techniques are used to relax, stimulate and revive the scalp. The
effect of this is to help stimulate hair growth and vitalize the brain. The
use of stretching and pressure points on the neck and shoulder muscles
aid in mobility and ease discomfort. Finally, the treatment finishes with a
calming face massage increasing lymph drainage.
In this class you will learn:
The course begins with a detailed study of the lymphatic system. Concepts
