EVENTS & MEETINGS:
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Please join us for the Friends of the
Library free programs, held the second Tuesday of each month in the
2nd floor Meeting Room of the
Hampstead Public Library at 7 PM,
unless otherwise indicated.
Do you have energy and enthusiasm
you would like to share with the
Friends of the Library? We are looking
for a chairperson (or two or more
people to co-chair) the next Holiday
Auction. This is our largest single
fundraising event.
Business meetings follow the
programs; members are
encouraged to attend the
meetings and make decisions
regarding spending funds and planning Friends’ programs.
If you enjoy the Friends’ monthly
programs and are interested in
more entertaining and informative
events, check the programs
offered by the Library. Pick up a
brochure at the front desk, watch
the local newspapers, or get
information from the library’s web
site: www.hampsteadlibrary.org
Remember: Renew your
membership now, or sign up for
the first time. Dues are only $5.00
per person. Small
businesses may become Friends
for $25 and corporate businesses
can buy memberships at $100.
If you have ideas for this or any other
big fundraising event, or can help in
any way, please contact Friends’
president, Marcia Blaine at 329-8281
or [email protected].
If you are interested in helping with a
future Holiday House Tour, please
email Ellen Edwards, [email protected].
Our largest on-going fundraiser is the
Hollyhock Thrift Shop. Located in the
library basement. It is open on
Tuesday and Saturday mornings.
For bargains on gently used clothing,
be sure to check out the selection of
clothes for men, women and children.
You can help by shopping, donating
good used clothes, or by volunteering
in the shop. For more information,
contact Elaine David at the shop on
Tuesday or Saturday mornings.
Messages can also be left with the
library staff.
These Events are on the 2nd Tuesday of the Month, September through May, in the Hampstead Public Library 2nd Floor Meeting Room
Eleanor Roosevelt: Wife,
Mother, First Lady
Tues, September 9 @ 7 pm
In a frank and often
humorous portrayal,
actress Elena Dodd
gives us the extraordinary life of an
extraordinary
woman. If you plan to
watch the Ken Burns documentary
about the Roosevelts on PBS this fall,
this show will be a fitting beginning to
the experience. Funded in part by the
NH Humanities Council.
Journey to Scotland
with piper, Douglas Rickard
Tues, October 14 @ 7 pm
Enjoy rousing, moving
bagpipe music, played on a
variety of pipes by one of the
area’s foremost pipers.
Come early to experience the
full effect of a bagpiping
surprise!
Fifty Shades of Radio
with Mike Morin
Tues, November 11 @ 7 pm
Mike Morin, well-known radio
humorist, author, and
columnist for NH papers, will
entertain us with stories
about his experiences as a
radio personality, his
meetings with the rich and
famous, and life in general. If you want to
laugh, be sure to attend this program
A Call to Celebration
Tues, December 9 @ 7 pm
Back by popular demand, the
English Handbell Choir of the
First Congregational Church of
Pelham will again delight us with
their selection of holiday music.
Don’t miss this wonderful beginning to the
holiday season.
Laugh Therapy
Tues, January 13, 2015 @ 7 pm
After the stress of the
holidays, we need to find ways
to relax. Richard Mullen,
certified laugh therapist, will
entertain and inform us about
how to put life in perspective
and look on the bright side.
Vanished Veterans
Tues, February 10 @ 7 pm
Throughout New Hampshire from
the 1860’s through the 20th
century, individuals and veterans’
organizations erected a
fascinating assortment of
memorials to the Civil War.
Historian George Morrison
presents a diverse selection of
stories and pictures of some of
these monuments, including, of
course, Hampstead’s memorial.
This program is funded in part by the
NH Humanities Council.
Moved and Seconded
Tues, March 10 @ 7 pm
Once again Rebecca Rule will
amuse us with stories about
humorous activities in New
Hampshire, focusing on what
has gone on at some local
town meetings in the past
and is still happening in those
towns lucky enough to still
have town meetings. This
program is funded in part by the
NH Humanities Council.
Tues, April 10 @ 7 pm
To Be Announced
Potluck Supper
Tues, May 12 @ 5:30 pm
The annual Potluck Supper for Friends is
a wonderful social event. Enjoy delicious
food, relaxing music, and pictures of past
Friends of the Library events.
Bring a favorite dish to share. [Look for a
sign-up sheet at the library in April.]
Dinner starts at 5:30 PM.
Who are the Friends of the
Hampstead Public Library?
We are book lovers, information
seekers, readers, listeners, music and
movie buffs. We are young and old,
with varying backgrounds and
interests. We all treasure ideas and
value the public library as a vital
community resource. We all believe
that the Hampstead Public Library is
an excellent library, ready to serve the
whole community.
The Friends raise money for
equipment, materials and programs
that are not provided for by the
regular library budget; things that are
beyond what taxpayers are
responsible for.
Libraries provide services for
community members of all ages, so
everyone benefits when libraries
thrive.
Come join the fun!
