Our sanctuary light will burn this week as a 6th anniversary
remembrance for Edward P. Vergati req. by his sister, Carrie, and

McMullen, Ryan Cook and Caroline E. Casey as well as their
loved ones who mourn at this time of loss.
How often have we heard from parents, teachers and
elders that “a promise made, is a promise to be kept”? Certainly, as
we celebrate the baptism of Jesus we see the continuation of the
promise made by God the Father that we would experience a
redeemer. We have just celebrated the birth of Jesus, the
Redeemer and, now, we have the image before us of the “transfer of
the promise” from John the messenger, the prophet to the person
Himself. From the One hoped for Jesus becomes the reality. What
a moment in salvation history!
A subtle question often asked yet just as often lost in the
overwhelming experiences of the birth of Jesus is the heritage of
Jesus and the fulfillment of the promise that the Savior would be
born of the House of David. Scholars remind us to return to the
Christmas Gospel of Matthew. Here Matthew traces the lineage of
Jesus through fourteen after fourteen generations beginning with
David. Ultimately, Matthew writes a summary of the multiples of
fourteen beginning with David and ending with the Messiah.
Through His adoption as a child of Joseph Jesus was born into the
House of David but with His baptism Jesus reminds us of
something more. There is no need to look for the Messiah. He is
before our eyes! The prophecy is recognized in the presence of the
moment. John as prophet will fade, Jesus as the Messiah will
begin His public life as the Son of God and, to seal the moment on
our minds and hearts, we hear the voice of God the Father, “This is
my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
How blessed we are. We are no longer among the
generations who waited. We are among those who know the
Presence, the Promise fulfilled. Today John and Jesus in that
moment of “transfer” remind us that God’s promise made is a
promise kept.

Pray for the children, families and adults who are preparing for the
Sacrament of Baptism. The Light of Christ passed on to you at
your baptism is a light that leads you to faith, hope and love.
Parish Nurses Blood Pressure Clinic is scheduled for next
weekend. Plan now to have your pressure checked.
“Praise Choir” rehearses at 10:30 p.m. prior to the 11:15 a.m. Mass
All are welcome to share their voice / instrument as part of the
liturgy each week.

Please pray for those who are so earnestly seeking greater
knowledge of their faith and, especially, the richness of graces
open to all in the Catholic faith.
No religious education classes this week.
Classes resume on Sunday, January 25. At this time the Grade 2
students attending St. Mark School are expected to join in
preparation for their first Eucharist.

St Joseph High School
St. Joseph High School is hosting a Middle School Day on Friday,
January 16, from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.. All 6th, 7th and 8th grade
students in our area public schools as well as parochial and private
schools are invited. A full presentation of curriculum, activities
and aspects of the school will be shared. For more information

Youth Day in Poland
Bishop Rozanski, our new bishop, is planning to lead our diocesan
youth to the 2016 World Youth Day in Krakow, Poland. There is
information in our church vestibule.
United Cerebral Palsy Telethon:
United Cerebral Palsy Association of Berkshire County’s Annual
Telethon is Sunday, January 25, 2015 Live from 1-5 p.m. at the
Crowne Plaza in Pittsfield. It will be televised live from 1-5 p.m.
throughout Berkshire County on Time Warner Cable, Channel 16
on PCTV in Pittsfield and Central Berkshire County as well as
Channel 15 on NBCTV in north county and on Channel 16 on
CTSB in south county. UCP’s goal is $35,000. All monies raised
in this telethon remain entirely in Berkshire County to provide
services to children and adults for physical and developmental
disabilities and their families. Please consider this worthwhile
local charity when they call.

Our Youth Choir added such prayer and beauty to our Christmas
liturgies. Thank you!
Wednesday, January 14
Quilting Group meets at 6:00 p.m. in the lower church hall.
Prayer Shawl Group does not meet this week but will meet at 7:00
p.m. next Wednesday evening.
Thursday, January 15
Adult Choir Practice begins at 6:30 p.m.
We give thanks to our Praise Choir and Adult Choir for their gift
of voice all during our Christmas liturgies.
Many thanks to the Magi at the Epiphany whose reverence invited
ours.
Thank you to Joe Rose, our music director, and all our children
and young adults who took part in our Christmas pageant.
New Altar Servers:
Many of our faithful altar servers have now grown into young men
and women with many responsibilities. New altar servers are
needed at all the Mass especially the 4:00 p.m. Saturday Mass and
the 7:15 a.m. Sunday Mass. This might be a perfect time to begin
serving on the altar. Individual training is available. Please
encourage your son or daughter to consider this youth ministry.

office @ 448-8836. Students should be in Grade 3 and have
received their first Eucharist.

St. Charles Food Pantry
A sincere thank you to all who donated food, gift cards, shoe
certificates and monetary gifts to those we serve through our parish
outreach to the poor. Your great kindness and generosity meant so
much to so many. In their name is written this thank you.
Pantry shelf items in short supply include peanut butter, spaghetti
sauce, macaroni and cheese, tuna fish and canned fruit. As always,
any item is tremendously appreciated.
