Message from the Principal
Happy New Year! I hope that you and your family
have had a wonderful holiday season and that
Christ’s coming has brought peace to you and those
dearest to you.
As we begin the 2015 calendar year let me remind
you that your support of the BBHS Annual Appeal is
vital to the school. We look forward to the generosity
of our community to allow us to continue a toprated experience. Please contact our Director of
Development, Chris Holtz, if you have any further
questions.
Come participate in our winter activities by supporting
the girls’ and boys’ basketball, cheerleading,
academic team, and bowling. Also, we would like to
extend an open invitation to mass in our St. Francis
of Assisi Chapel. Mass is celebrated on the first
Friday of every month at 6:45 a.m. and is followed
with light breakfast for all community members who
attend.
With the winter months comes the possibility of
severe weather. Let me reassure you, first and
foremost, that the safety of the student body is
always a priority. We will use all available modes of
communication to inform your family of delays or
closures. Having said this, let me stress as well that
any time school is open and your personal judgment
is to keep your child home, we will always accept
your decision. While we will always strive to make
decisions that protect the safety of the students, we
cannot know the specific conditions that each and
every student may face.
Finally, thank you all for your support this year and
may God continue to bless us all and grant us a safe
and productive second semester.
In partnership with Christ,
Dan Ridder, Principal

Student Absences
With winter sicknesses starting to make an
appearance, here is a reminder of the absentee
procedure: Please call the office to notify us that
your child will not be at school that day. When they
return, please send a note with them. If they visited a
doctor, a doctor's note is preferred.

Family Directory
We have been working on developing a BBHS family
directory. Many of the diocesan schools already
have these in place and find them useful to parents
arranging carpools, or for contacting parents
regarding other school or social events.
The information included in this directory will be
 Student Name
 Parent Names & Address
 Parent Email(s)
 Home Phone
 Parent Cell Phone
Our plan is to have this ready for distribution by
st
February 1 .
If you wish to ‘OPT OUT’ and not have your
information published, please contact the school
office by phone or email Mrs. Miller at
[email protected].
Dress Code Reminder
As the weather gets colder, please review our
student dress code in the handbook! Dress Code
Guidelines are on pages 18 & 19 of the student
handbook. Uniform violations will result in a $2 fine.
Here are a few reminders regarding the dress code:
All hooded sweatshirts MUST be BBHS sweatshirts.
In lieu of a sweater, students may wear a solid color
fleece jacket/pullover that does not have a hood. The
colors must be hunter green, grey, white or black. As
always, the uniform shirt/blouse must be worn under
ALL sweatshirts and sweaters. If a school-approved
turtleneck is worn, the shirt or blouse must also be
worn.

Ron Heiert Night - January 23
Beta Club News
During halftime of the Girls Varsity game vs.
Pendleton Co. we will honor Ron Heiert for his many
years of dedicated service to Bishop Brossart and the
community. Please join us in our celebration.
Beta brought much Christmas cheer to the
different organizations the Brossart community
supports. Some members made Christmas cards for
the Sisters of Good Shepherd in Fort Thomas. Other
students brought much needed cleaning supplies for
Catholic Charities to add to the Christmas baskets
they make for their clients. Cleaning supplies may
not seem like a Christmas present but for many
struggling families it is just what they need.
We were also able to share the real reason for
the season when we dropped off Turkey bowl items
we collected at the Urban Education Center and
Echo Soup Kitchen. Sr. Reinette and Karen Yates
were overjoyed with the generous supplies Brossart
gave them. I wish everyone could see the impact
that our Turkey Bowl collections make for the nonprofits we help on a regular basis! Thank you!
Additionally, we had volunteers help with the St.
Mary Breakfast with St. Nick, St. Mary’s St. Vincent
de Paul Society with their annual basket and
Christmas donations, and Jesse trees at two local
parishes.
Monthly we have duds days to support various
people or non-profit organizations. September’s
collection went to the Seminarians in Covington
Diocese and the Knights of Columbus Tootsie Roll
Drive. October’s collection was to benefit those with
Autism. Needed school supplies are being
purchased to help local children in Alexandria and
their teachers. In November, the money collected
went to the French club. They support tuition for
schools in Haiti. And in December, we collected
money for the Care Mission and the Crosstown Food
Out. Cans are collected at the BBHS – CCHS
basketball games over the holidays to support our
local mission. These monthly collections, though
they are only $2 for each student, touch the lives of
many throughout the year.
We will be participating in another blood drive for
Hoxworth in February. Any student 16 and older
(weighing 110 lbs) can donate as well as parents,
alumni, teachers and staff. More information and a
permission slip for students will be sent home in
January.
We are looking forward to another great year of
doing service to help our community. Following is a
list of the activities planned for January:
 Wed., Jan. 7 Active Day Adult Day Care
 Sat., Jan. 10 HONK
 Wed., Jan. 14 Urban Education Center
 Fri., Jan. 16 $2 Duds day

Spring Physicals: Due by February 15, 2015
The winter sports seasons are now in full swing as
our boys and girls varsity basketball teams head into
their holiday tournaments. The boys will be playing in
the Henry County Holiday tournament beginning
th
Monday December 29 . The Boy’s team won this
tournament last year and hope to do the same as
they open up against Sayre at 7pm.
The girls will be playing in the Conner Holiday
Invitation and will also be looking for back to back
th
titles. They open up Monday December 29 at
8:30pm against Conner High School.
We also have our Cross-town “food-out” games
coming up against Campbell County High School.
This year’s games are hosted by Campbell County.
No passes are accepted because this is a charity
event. The girls games are on Friday January 2,
Freshman at 4:30, JV at 6, and Varsity at 7:30. The
rd
Boys games will be Saturday January 3 at the same
times. For the past few years, both schools have
come together to collect canned goods to be donated
to the less fortunate. If you would like more
information in this charity event, please contact the
front office.
Some other news from the athletic desk includes
updates that will be coming along as we approach
summer. We will be updating the NKAC
Championship plaque wall as we include all those
plaques that have yet to be hung. We will also be
renovating the gym banners and reorganizing and
including any banners that need to be hung. We will
also be looking to add a new addition to the walls in
the gym area that include our Mustang Hall of Fame
winners and NKAD Hall of Fame winners.
Finally, over the next couple of months, the
ihigh.com/mustangathletics site will be under
construction to get all of our sports up-to-date and in
full working order.
Thank you and Go Mustangs!
