CCH eSign
Introduction
On June 30, 2000, Congress enacted the Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act. Although
the ESIGN Act of 2000 permitted electronic signatures on most documents, the IRS continued to require a
physical signature on Form 8879 until recently. On March 11, 2014, the IRS updated Publication 1345 to allow
electronic signatures on Forms 8878 and 8879 as long as the taxpayer’s identity is verified either in person or
using knowledge based authentication. CCH eSign provides the required knowledge based authentication
(KBA) to allow e-signature for Form 8879 for Individual returns.
Other examples where you can use e-signatures without KBA include:
• Engagement letters
• Representation letters
• Confirmations
• Internal human resources documents
How Does CCH eSign Work?
The flow for CCH eSign begins with the document author. After setting up the document in AssureSign, the
client receives an email alerting them to sign the document. If the signature requires verification, AssureSign
offers a knowledge based authentication procedure to verify the identity of the signer prior to signature. The
author receives a notification after client signs the document. In the case of Form 8879, CCH eSign is
integrated with ProSystem fx Electronic Filing Status to streamline providing the client Form 8879 for signature
and receiving a signed copy of the 8879 from the client.
CCH eSign Process:
1. You send an email (actually, AssureSign sends the email for you) to a client informing them a document
needs their signature.
2. The client clicks a link provided in the email and is prompted to sign the document. For Form 8879, the
client must first answer some security questions to authenticate their identity.
3. Emails are immediately sent to both you and your client verifying that the process is complete, with a
link to the document.
What Are the Benefits of CCH eSign?
•
•
•
Electronic filing integration — Form 8879 integrates into ProSystem fx Electronic Filing Status, allowing
you to enjoy the efficiency of a paperless filing process from start to finish. When an Individual return
is ready for signing, the program generates an email to the client notifying them that Form 8879 is
available for signing, tracks the form’s completion and sends automated reminders if needed. After the
client completes the signing process, you can transmit the return.
Simplified and improved firm/client relationship — Just as consumers anticipate availability of e-signing
in other official transactions, they expect their CPA to offer this convenience. Using e-signature
technology helps confirm your reputation as a client‑focused and technology‑savvy firm.
Brand enhancement — With CCH eSign, you can customize customer‑facing communications with your

firm name and logo, strengthening the professionalism of your brand.
Mobile convenience — CCH eSign is available for iOS, Windows® and Android™ mobile devices, so you
and your clients can complete the e‑signing process anytime, anyplace, from any PC, laptop, tablet or
smartphone.
Setup
Request the CCH eSign license by calling 1-800-739-9998, option 1. The license is free. A transaction fee is
billed to your account as you use the program.
Configuration
The initial setup in Office Manager or the Settings and Defaults requires the name and email address of the
primary administrator for CCH eSign. This identifies the person who logs in to AssureSign® to continue the
setup and customization.
Per Return Selection
Instead of setting the option in Office Manager or the Return Configuration Sets, you can select or override the
eSign option on a per return basis. Select “Yes” at General > Electronic Filing > General > Electronically sign
8879 (Interview Form EF-1).
Review Question
Question: Electronic signatures for Form 8879 require a Knowledge Based Authentication to verify the identity
of the signer.

If a taxpayer is eligible for an exemption from having health insurance for 2014, they must complete Form
8965, Health Coverage Exemptions, to avoid owing a penalty (shared responsibility payment) for 2014.
The form contains two sections:
• Part I, Marketplace-Granted Coverage Exemptions for Individuals
An individual must apply for the exemption before they file their return. When they file Form 8965
they must enter the exemption certificate number that the Marketplace issues.
• Part II, Coverage Exemptions for Your Household Claimed on Your Return
Use this section for hardship exemptions the taxpayer would not know they are eligible for until the
end of 2014.
We added entries at Taxes > Health Coverage for Form 1095-B. Form 1095-B is used to report certain
information to the IRS and to taxpayers about individuals who are covered by minimum essential coverage and
are not liable for the individual shared responsibility payment.
We added entries at Taxes > Employer-Provided Health Insurance Offer and Coverage for Form 1095-C. If a
taxpayer is offered health coverage in an employer’s health plan, Form 1095-C provides information needed to
report if the taxpayer had qualifying health coverage for some or all months of the year.
Forms 1095-B and 1095-C are not required to be filed until 2016 for 2015. However, entities can voluntarily
file in 2015 for 2014.

Credits
Form 8962, Premium Tax Credit
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, effective for tax years after 2013, authorizes premium
assistance tax credits under Code Sec. 36B to help certain taxpayers pay for the cost of health insurance
premiums. Taxpayers who purchase qualified health plans through state exchanges are entitled to a
refundable income tax credit, the Premium Tax Credit (PTC). Form 8962 is filed to compute and take the PTC.
Taxpayers can claim the PTC if they meet all of the following requirements:
1. At some point in the year, one or more individuals in their tax family
a. Were enrolled in one or more qualified health plans offered through the Marketplace; and
b. For the same months, were not eligible for minimum essential health coverage (other than
coverage in the individual market)
2. The taxpayer is an “applicable taxpayer”, meeting all of the following tests:
a. The taxpayers household income is at least 100 percent but no more than 400 percent of the
Federal poverty line for their family size for 2014 (certain exceptions do apply)
b. No one can claim the taxpayer as a dependent on their return for 2014; and
c. If the taxpayer was married at the end of 2014, generally, they must file a joint return.
However, filing a separate return does not disqualify the taxpayer from being an “applicable
taxpayer” if certain requirements are met.
Advance payment of the premium tax credit (APTC) is a payment made for coverage during the year made to a
taxpayer’s insurance provider that pays for part or all of the health insurance premium coverage. The APTC is
based on the Marketplace’s estimate of the PTC. If an APTC was paid, Form 8962 is required to be filed to
compare this APTC with the PTC.
A Form 1095-A is required to be issued to any taxpayers who participated in an exchange. To complete Form
8962, go to Credits > 8962 Health Insurance Marketplace. Enter the detail from Form 1095-A as received by
the taxpayer on the input screen. This fills Form 8962 to calculate the credit or refund due. (Interview Form
1095-A)

Additional Information
If the taxpayer was a victim of domestic abuse or spousal abandonment, the taxpayer can take the PTC if they
file Married Filing Separate (MFS), if they meet certain circumstances. Check the box at Credits > 8962 Health
Insurance Marketplace > Additional Information > Victim of abuse or abandonment.
If dependents are required to file a tax return, you must include their modified AGI in the total modified AGI
for purposes of calculating the PTC. If dependents are only filing a tax return to claim a refund for tax withheld
or estimated tax, do not include their income in the calculation. Enter the combined modified AGI of
dependents at Credits > 8962 Health Insurance Marketplace > Additional Information > Dependent’s modified
AGI.

2015 Update Seminar
If the taxpayer’s income calculates as below 100 percent of the Federal poverty line, and all of the following
requirements apply, they can still claim the PTC:
1. They enrolled in a qualified health plan through a Marketplace
2. The Marketplace estimated at the time of the enrollment that their household income would be
between 100 percent and 400 percent of the Federal poverty line for 2014
3. APTC is paid for coverage for one or more months during 2013; and
4. They otherwise qualify as an “applicable taxpayer”
Check the box at Credits > 8962 Health Insurance Marketplace > Additional Information > Qualified for PTC
even though household income is below 100% of poverty line if the taxpayer qualifies.
Additional calculations are required if the taxpayer has second policy, if it is the year of marriage or if the policy
is shared with another taxpayer. Additional entries are available under Credits > 8962 Health Insurance
Marketplace > Additional Information under these circumstances.

The IRS is considering changes to Schedule M-3 and to the requirements for the book-to-tax
reconciliation for corporations with $10 million to $50 million in total assets filing Form 1120-L, 1120PC, or filing as a mixed group including the requirement that mixed groups sub-consolidate and file Form

Corporations and partnerships with less than $50 million in total assets at year-end can voluntarily file
Schedule M-3, Parts II and III and/or Schedule B (Form 1120), Schedule C (Form 1065) Additional Information
for Schedule M-3 Filers or Form 8916-A, Supplemental Attachment to Schedule M-3. Taxpayers that complete
Schedule M-3, Parts II and III must complete all columns, without exception.
Producing Schedule M-1
The program defaults to produce Schedule M-3 when total assets are greater than $10 million. To request to
file Schedule M-1 when total assets at year-end are at least $10 million but less than $50 million go to Sch L/M
> Schedule M-3 > General and Net Income (loss) Reconciliation > Suppress Schedule M-3, Parts II & III and

To change your organization’s default to file Schedule M-1 when total assets at year-end are at least
$10 million but less than $50 million go to Office Manager/Configure Applications/Tax
Preparation/Miscellaneous Options and enter an “X” in the Reserved for future use 3 field.
Suppressing Form 8916-A
Form 8916-A, Supplemental Attachment to Schedule M-3 is not
required when filing Schedule M-3 voluntarily. However, the
program defaults to print Form 8916-A when Schedule M-3 is
filed voluntarily. To suppress, check the box at Sch L/M > Schedule M-3 > General and Net Income (loss)
Reconciliation > Suppress Form 8916-A (Interview Form L-5).

Posting Schedule M-3 Items to Schedule M-1
In prior years, the C Corporation and S Corporation programs did not automatically carry amounts from
Schedule M-3 to Schedule M-1. Beginning in 2014, the program default for Forms 1120, 1120S and 1065
changes to transfer Schedule M-3 items to Schedule M-1 automatically if no amounts are in the return for
Schedule M-1 open line items.
If descriptions but no amounts are in the return for Schedule M-1, the program still automatically transfers
Schedule M-3 items to Schedule M-1. This example shows a description only without amount(s) entered.
For consolidated returns, we automatically transfer Schedule M-3 items to Schedule M-1 with the
exception of mixed groups. The Schedule M-3 to M-1 transfer option does not occur for a mixed group
even if you select the option.
Posting Net Book Income from Schedule M-3 to Schedule M-1
•
•
If Schedule M-3 is present, net book Income flows from Schedule M-3, Part I, line 11 to Schedule M-1
line 1.
If only Schedule M-3, Part I is present, net book income flows from Schedule M-3, Part I, line 11 to
Schedule M-1, line 1.
Schedule M-1 book income never flows to Schedule M-3, Part I.
Stopping Schedule M-3 Net Book Income from Flowing to Schedule M-1
•
You must override Schedule M-1 net book income.
o To ensure that Net Book Income for Schedule M-1 and M-3 agree, we recommend you enter the
override at Sch L/M > Schedule M-3 > General and Net Income (loss) Reconciliation > Net
income (loss) per income statement of includible corporations – override (Interview Form L-5).
o If you enter an override for Schedule M-1 Net Book Income at Sch L/M > Schedule M-1 > Net

there is an entry for Income statement source type and there is not an override entry for Worldwide
consolidated net income(loss) from income statement source.
When you use this option, Schedule M-3, Part I, line 11 always equals Part II, Column A, Book Income. If
any amounts are present for net income(loss) reconciliation for Part I, the program computes Schedule
M-3, Part I, Line 4a.

second advantage of this method allows for ease of adjustment of state allocation and apportionment
amounts.
The elimination company should mainly consist of negative amounts. The member companies need to
have positive amounts that exceed the elimination companies’ negative amounts.
Important Considerations
The elimination company is not considered a tax entity
The income tax calculation is suppressed for the elimination company
Enter the Parents EIN on the Basic Data worksheet for the elimination company
Do not enter tax payments, credits, and carryover information with the elimination company
The elimination company does not appear on the consolidated Form 851 and never has a separate company
Schedule M-3 produced for it at the consolidated level
Carryover items for NOL, charitable contributions and capital losses do not roll forward for an elimination
company
The program ignores entries on the Contribution Carryover, NOL Carryover/Carryback, Section 1231 Loss
Carryover, Capital Loss Carryover/Carryback, Passive Loss Carryover, Credit Carryover/Carryback and all other
carryover worksheets in the calculation of the Consolidation
Do not use the State and City Tax Accrual Option at General > Return Options > Calculation Options with the
elimination company (Interview Form 2)
The elimination company cannot be the Consolidation
The elimination company method is not supported for a consolidated return containing Form 8810, Corporate
Passive Activity Loss and Credit Limitations
Elimination company method is not supported for 1120-L, 1120PC, 1120-C, Mixed Groups and 1120-REIT
Steps to Create a Consolidated Elimination Company:
1. Create a new corporate (1120) tax return
2. Enter the Parent’s employer identification
number at General > Basic Data > General for
the elimination company (Interview Form 1)
3. Enter the elimination return code at General >
Basic Data > General > Code for consolidated
return (Interview Form 1)
• Use ‘Elimination Division’ for a consolidated
return used in a DIV/DRE consolidation

4. Go to the Return Group and open the Consolidation and enter the elimination company client ID at
Consolidated > Options > Elimination company’s Client ID (Interview Form CC-1)
The elimination company is the last company on the
Return Group tab and the IRS requires that it qualify for
electronic filing.
5. Complete the eliminations in the elimination company then open the Consolidated Return and go to
Government forms to review the reports in the 1120 Consolidated folder
The elimination company amounts do not show as a member company and its amounts are not in the
combined amount column. Entries from the elimination company show in the elimination column and
are included in the consolidated totals column.

Your eliminations and adjustments never appear in the Adjustments column. The “Adjustment” column
of the consolidated workpaper is for automatic program adjustments, such as recalculation of charitable
contributions, utilization of capital loss carryover, reapplication of mid-quarter convention on a
consolidated basis and other tax adjustments made by the program.
The program shows the elimination company in the consolidated open line supporting statements for items
such as other income and other deductions. The corporate name you enter for the elimination company on its

the company. Click the This Form’s Statements

Use Detail Entries Instead of Input Overrides
Make your eliminating entries for the elimination company with detail entries whenever possible to enable
supporting forms and schedules to tie to Form 1120 and to keep taxable income according to Schedule M-3
and Form 1120 in agreement. The following items are a summary of the main income and deduction items on
page 1 of the return that use detail entries.
Sale of Assets
Enter eliminations for sales of assets at Income/Deductions > Gains and Losses instead of using the input
override fields of the Business Worksheet (Interview Form D-1).
This results in the Schedule D and Form 4797 to tie to Form 1120, lines 8 and 9 and for complete Schedule M-3
presentation at both the elimination company and the consolidated return.

To adjust prior year assets, enter 999999 in the Date in Service field for the elimination to appear on Form
4562, line 17 for prior year assets. To eliminate current year assets, enter a current year for Date in Service.
Enter a Code to force when making eliminating depreciation detailed entries.

Dividends
Eliminations for Dividends entered at Income/Deductions > Dividends result in Schedule C tying to the
dividends line on Form 1120, page 1, for both the elimination company and the consolidated return (Interview
Form B-2). Detailed entries also assist in keeping Schedule M-3 and page 1, taxable income amounts
reconciled.
The elimination company Schedule C special deductions column will always be blank.
The consolidated return bases the consolidated special deduction on your detailed dividend eliminations and
any automatic program adjustments. The program shows any computed difference between the combined
and consolidated special deduction as an Adjustment not an Elimination.
The Consolidated workpapers Eliminations and Adjustments columns allow for a Government override if
you want to reclassify a Special Deduction Adjustment to an Elimination. This override does not affect
the consolidated deduction or the combined amount, but do assure that the amounts cross foot.

Domestic Production Activity Deduction
Eliminate amounts from the consolidated Qualified Production Activities Income (QPAI Schedule) by making
entries at Income/Deductions > Business > Qualified Production Activity Income (Interview Form DPAD -1). Do
not make entries in the Overrides section for the elimination company (Interview Form DPAD-2).
You can only enter amounts for the four entries shown in the illustration below.
Entries for Percent are not allowed.
These entries eliminate QPAI at the consolidated level and do not appear as an elimination to DPAD on Form

To make an elimination to DPAD on the Form 1120, Page 1, line 25 of the consolidated return, you need
to enter it in the elimination company at Income/Deductions > Domestic Production Activities
Deductions Other Information > Overrides (Interview Form DPAD-2). Alternatively, use a government
view override on the Consolidated Income and Deductions worksheet to reclassify.
Here is an example of the QPAI schedule in the consolidated return with the default option of Accumulate but
do not recompute separate company QPAI.
Charitable Contributions
Enter eliminations for Charitable Contributions at Income/Deductions > Charitable Contributions >
Contribution Detail Not Carried to Form 8283 (Interview Form A-4). The program does not limit entries to 10
percent of taxable income for an elimination company. Your entry in this section flows to Schedule M-3. This
entry results in the elimination company and the consolidated return’s Form 1120 page 1 and Schedule M-3
remaining in balance.
Entries for Contribution Carryovers are not allowed for an elimination company.

both the elimination company and the consolidated return (Interview Form L-7).
Depletion

to Schedule M-1 with the elimination company (Interview Form L-5). However, you can select this option at
the consolidated level.
Do not make entries in the Temporary Difference – Override columns at Sch L/M > Schedule M-3 > Income

Schedule M-2
At the consolidated level, the computed consolidated Schedule M-2 ending balance flows to the consolidated
ending Schedule L. Enter eliminations to ending unappropriated retained earnings to the elimination
company’s Schedule M-2 and not directly to the elimination company’s Schedule L.
The program ignores an entry in the elimination company at Sch L/M > Balance Sheet > Shareholders’
Equity > Retained earnings – unappropriated – end of year override at the consolidated level (Interview
Form L-2).
Eliminations for Tiered Consolidations
For example, lower tier sub consolidation has Total Other Income of $100,000 and an elimination of $10,000
for a net of Total Other Income of $90,000. The Top tier Consolidation has an Other Income elimination of
$25,000.
• When you select the show-all method at Consolidated > Options > Show sub-consolidated
members as one company, the lower tier’s elimination appear with the top tier elimination in the
Elimination Column of the Income and Deductions report in the Consolidated Folder of Government
forms (Interview Form CC-1). The total elimination will be $35,000 ($10,000 lower tier plus $25,000
top tier).
• When you select the subtotal method at Consolidated > Options > Show sub-consolidated members
as one company the lower tier’s elimination will not appear with the top tier elimination in the
Elimination Column of the Income and Deductions report in the Consolidated Folder of Government
forms (Interview Form CC-1). The top tier elimination column will only show the top tier
elimination of $25,000. The lower tier sub consolidation shows $90,000 for Other Income (Net of
$100,000 Other Income minus its elimination of $10,000).
Consolidated Schedule M-3 – Statement Enhanced for Other Income and Other Deductions
By default, the program shows income and deduction items with the same description on separate statements
with No Differences and With Differences. There is a new option for Corporation, S Corporation and
Partnership Consolidations to Net amounts from the No Differences and With Differences statement together
on the With Differences statement. To choose this new option go to Consolidated > Options > Consolidated
Schedule M-3 statement option and select Print Statements – Combine like description (Interview Form CC-1).
For example, the consolidation includes companies, MSH and KRH with Gross Receipts or Sales.
• MSH has Gross Receipts or Sales of $63,865,000 and no book to tax difference
• KRH has Gross Receipts or Sales of $68,980,000 for book and $67,980,000 for Tax
• The net of two is $132,845,000 for book and $131,845,000 for tax

Preparing for Tax Season
Important Note About Installing ProSystem fx
Only ten years of the ProSystem fx Tax program can reside in the wfx32 folder. If you still use the 2004
program, you need to remove or delete the 2004 program before installing Release 2013.05000. If the
installation program detects 2004 files on your system during installation of ProSystem fx Tax version
2013.05000, a message displays requesting that you archive and remove the 2004 program and data files.
In preparation for the installation of the 2014 Tax program, you must remove your
2004 tax files. Please go to our on-line Knowledge Base for instructions:
http://support.cch.com/answers and search for article number sw17858.
Please visit http://support.cch.com/answerdoc.aspx?id=sw17858 for the step-by-step instructions for the
removal of your 2004 files. The automated utility moves the return data files and uninstalls the necessary
program files.
You can use Fx Direct to access prior year returns.
Global fx no longer supports tax year 2004. You must archive all 2004 tax files locally or you can no longer
access those returns. In addition, we will announce procedures in an e-fxNews Release Bulletin on how to
obtain PDF copies of returns from Support.
Configure Tax Preparation
Each year we incorporate changes to the program settings to improve the customization of your organization’s
tax return processing. We recommend you review all of your settings to assist you in a smooth tax season.
You can access these settings under Office Manager – Configure Applications – Tax Preparation.
Default Returns
If you created Default Returns for your 2013 returns, you can roll them forward for 2014 using Production
Processing. Please review your settings before you start your 2014 return processing.
You can create Default Returns to set additional options not in Office Manager in all returns as you
open or create the return. Setup the Default Returns by selecting Default Returns from the Options
menu in the Tax program. As a best practice, we recommend that you password protect the default
returns.

registration), and click Sign In
Click the desired Tax System link and click the blue triangle to select the Taxing Authority desired
The Current Release Form Status can have the following designations:
• Prior Year – Based on the prior year tax forms. We have not received the official form from the taxing
authority.
• Preliminary – We have based the program update on preliminary forms received from the taxing
authority. Further changes are expected.
• Approval Pending – We have submitted this form to the taxing authority for scanning verification.
Before you can file the form, taxing authority approval is required.
• Not Released – The program is not available with this release.
• Final Update in Process – We have not completed final development, testing and/or release of
program. You should review thoroughly these calculations prior to filing.
• Released – We have released the program for processing and the associated form is available for
