NEW CHARGES FILED IN DEATH OF JAMES BAKER
Emerald Isle Police are reporting that new charges have
been filed in the investigation of an assault on James Edward
Baker, 26, of Emerald Isle. Preliminary autopsy findings
concluded that Mr. Baker died as a result of blunt force trauma
injuries he sustained in the assault that occurred in Emerald
Isle on December 22, 2014. Mr. Baker died while being cared for
at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC on January 3, 2015.
After conferring with District Attorney Scott Thomas, Emerald
Isle Police Detectives have filed the following new charges in
this investigation:
a. Zachary Gilbreath Lilley, 20 years of age, resides at
6002 McClean Dr, Emerald Isle has been charged with
Murder and 1st Degree Kidnapping.
He has a first
appearance in Carteret County District Court on the
new charges on 01/06/2015. He is under No Bond and is
currently being held in the Carteret County Jail.
b. Curtis Richard Pasch, 19 years of age, resides at 6002
McClean Dr, Emerald Isle has been charged with Murder
and 1st Degree Kidnapping. He was taken into custody on
the charges in New Hanover County, NC where is being
held.
He will be brought to Carteret County for his
first appearance and is under No Bond.
c. Clay Gilbreath Lilley, 22 years of age, resides at
6002 McClean Dr, Emerald Isle has been charged with
Murder and 1st Degree Kidnapping. He has a first
appearance in Carteret County District Court on the
new charges on 01/06/2015. He is under No Bond and is
currently being held in the Carteret County Jail.
d. Christian Stephen Guthrie, 22 years of age, resides at
3417 E. Railroad Blvd, Newport has been charged with
1st Degree Kidnapping.
He has a first appearance in
Carteret County District Court on the new charges on
01/06/2015.
He is under a $45,000.00 Bond and is
currently being held in the Carteret County Jail.
