The St. Francis Recreation Department is offering a new program, available to Deer Creek Intermediate
students for the 2014 school year.

MIKRO SOCCER
A fun, non-competitive introduction to
soccer for children ages 3 - 6 years old.
Instructed by certified Milwaukee Kickers Soccer Club coaches with a goal of enhancing participants’ physical activity, socialization, ability to follow directions, coordination
and teamwork, this six-week program is fun for all!!
The $66.00 per child fee includes a soccer jersey and one-hour of instruction, once per
week.
Every child is required to bring a soccer ball to each practice (preferably a size 3). We will provide a soccer ball for an additional $10.00 which can be added to the fee during registration.
Participants should wear athletic clothing and sneakers. Spikes and shin guards are not necessary for
MiKro play.
Please Note: No onsite registration will be accepted. Payment and registration form must be received at least 24 hours prior to the start of the first class.

YOUTH SOCCER
Bend it Like Beckham! Come hone your skills, get some energy out, and have fun with
friends. Soccer sessions are for ONE hour, Saturday mornings starting in February.
Tennis shoes/rubber soled shoes and shin guards required.
Bring a ball and water bottle.

ST. FRANCIS MARTIAL ARTS
We offer Martial Arts programs that will improve our participants’ self-confidence, self esteem and physical condition in our “State of the Art” facility, located in the lower level of the Deer Creek Intermediate
Gym Building.
Our Martial Arts coordinator, Jeff Obst, has over 40 years of experience in the Martial
Arts and 33 years of experience as a Wisconsin Law Enforcement Officer. He is a 5th
degree Black Belt. Jeff coordinates a qualified staff that includes instructors from
boxing and Mixed Martial Arts fighters who enjoy sharing their experience and
knowledge and watching their students progress in a fun filled atmosphere.
Classes are 45 minutes long and meet twice a week for an 8 week session.
Students are welcome from ages 5 to adult.
Belt progression is available as these courses run year round.
KARATE/JUKADO

JUDO
This class is coordinated by Leland Roth, who is a certified instructor and Chicago Police Department
Judo Instructor. Leland has over 40 years of Martial Arts experience in Judo competition and selfdefense techniques.
In this class you will learn Kodokan style Judo and Jujitsu. Beginning students learn the fundamentals.
This includes learning how to fall, throw, pin and Jujitsu (self-defense) techniques. Continuing students
can learn progressively more advanced Judo and Jujitsu techniques leading to earning rank / promotion.
Classes run for an 8 week session on Saturdays mornings in the lower level of the Deer Creek Gym building.

AQUATIC OPPORTUNITIES
SWIM LESSONS
The St. Francis Recreation Department offers the American Red Cross “Learn to Swim” Program.
Swimming lessons are taught by Red Cross certified instructors and are designed to teach and I
improve skills and instill a positive, safe attitude towards water. Participants must provide their own swimsuit and
towel. Participants whose hair is shoulder length or longer are required to wear a swim cap.
LEVEL 1 CLASS: Introduction to Water Skills
Prerequisite: Minimum of 40 inches in height measured from toes to chin. For children with no previous
swim lesson experience or those who need more time with water adjustment skills.
DAY/DATE: Thursdays evenings ( February 5th-March 26th)
TIME: 5:00 pm-6:00 pm
COST: $ 20 Resident, $40 Non-Resident
CLASS SIZE: Minimum 6 students, maximum 20
LEVEL 2 CLASS:
For students who are able to submerge their face, bob and float on stomach/back with assistance.

comfortable entering deep water. They must be able to float on their
front and back unassisted, submerge head, and swim 10 yards on their
front and back without support.

WATER AEROBICS
Take a jump into the warm water for a great workout that won’t put stress on your joints.
Classes are held in the Deer Creek Pool.
Bring your own towel. Swim caps are optional.
