January 8, 2015 Volume 2015, 12/20/2012 Issue 1 The CollegiateFYI FYI Collegiate Volume 1, Issue 15 Dear Collegiate Families, Welcome back and Happy New Year! I hope each of you had a safe and blessed winter break with an opportunity to rest and spend time with family. Here at Collegiate, we had a productive break, catching up on some facilities work that is difficult to complete when students are in the building. Touch up painting in the cafe, stripping and waxing floors as well as replacing carpeting kept our facilities team busy while the rest of the staff planned for second semester. We are very fortunate to welcome an exchange teacher from “down under,” Mrs. Susan Yaghjian, who joins our team this semester from Dubbo, New South Wales, Australia. Mrs. Yaghjian will be teaching Mrs. Wright’s Middle School science courses for the next year while Mrs. Wright spends the year assimilating into Aussie culture. Please help us make our guest teacher welcome here in Colorado! Last night, we opened our doors for our first all school K-12 Choice Enrollment Open House. Many families interested in enrolling at Collegiate for the 2015/16 year had the opportunity to tour the school, meet teachers and support staff, and hear presentations about the curriculum and programming we offer in Kindergarten, Grades 1-6, Middle, and High School. Thanks so much to each of our current families who attended and helped to greet families as well as answer questions about our school from a parent perspective. Word of mouth from current families is our most powerful tool to get the word out about Collegiate Academy in our community. Please help us to continue growing by spreading the word about Collegiate to friends, neighbors and co-workers. Color brochures about our school are available at both front desks if you wish to pick up a few to distribute to acquaintances who might be interested in receiving more information about Collegiate. You can also help us get the word out about Choice Enrollment by sharing the Choice Enrollment post on our Facebook page with your Facebook friends. Report Cards for Semester 1 went live in Campus Parent Portal this morning so please login to continue monitoring your student’s academic progress online. If you have trouble with your login information, this is a great time to contact either the Elementary or Secondary School Front Desk to get your password reset so that you can stay on top of your child(ren)’s grades throughout the semester. The Academic Progress Monitor emails and phone calls will resume next Thursday to give our parents alerts when grades drop below a “C” level as well. As always, please reach out to teachers, to me, or to Mr. Johnson early on with any concerns so that we can partner effectively to help each student find academic success. A final note, the online apparel store for our State Champion Ultimate Frisbee team is now live. The link can be found on our website, Facebook page, or at this shortlink: http://tiny.cc/dzq7rx. A variety of clothing options including T-shirts, hoodies, and fleeces, as well as gear such as water bottles and bags are available. In addition,10% of all proceeds are donated back to the team. Chris Becker Principal Thank you to the parents who helped out during our open house and to those who have been referring families!
