ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS THE ORDER OF WORSHIP FOR JANUARY 4, 2015 2nd Sunday after Christmas 8:30 a.m. GATHERING OF GOD’S PEOPLE PRELUDE “Pastoral Symphony” (Psalm 103:8-12) The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. *RESPONSE Handel’s ‘Messiah’ *OPENING SCRIPTURE (John 1:1-5; 14) (Unison) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it. And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father’s only son, full of grace and truth. We have been so concerned with making a living that we have missed the life You set among us. Forgive us, gracious God. Open our eyes and our hearts to receive Your gift; open our lips and hands to share it with all humanity in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
