When we set up Paintworks it was with the intention of providing the artists of the East End with the art
shop of their dreams, the best products at the best prices in a friendly, informed atmosphere.
A couple of decades have passed since then and whilst our range of materials has grown and we
now have customers all over the country we are aware that there are other ways of buying art
materials out there.
The perception of shopping in warehouses, big mail order catalogues and online is that it is cheap
and, of course, sometimes it is (but don’t always believe it’s half price just because it says so).
We believe that our materials are the best, we hope you like the atmosphere and the service you find
at Paintworks and now we’d like you to compare our paint prices again and realise that you don’t
have to choose between old fashioned friendly helpful service and cheapest prices.

We are not exacty computer wizards here at Paintworks but we are very enthusiastic about the
materials we sell and welcome every opportunity to show them to our customers. We are also
aware of our environmental responsibilities and see our website as a great way to provide more
information about our range – including pictures, our opinions about them and prices – without
printing thousands of paper catalogues every year and adding to the mail mountain. We have tried
to include ALL of our materials in the PDF price lists which you can access on our site under
RESOURCES and regularly change the special offers and add to the “what’s new” section. In this
way we endeavour to offer ALL of our customers and not just those who live close by the products
we sell at the SAME PRICES. In fairness this means that we charge carriage at what it costs so that
everybody is treated equally.
We urge you to use our online price lists but we know that not everybody can do this and will
continue to produce our abridged version to post out.
NE W P RODUC T S
Since we printed our 2007 price list we have added many new products.
Our new Gallery stretchers have proved extremely popular and, encouraged by the thought that artists are returning to making their own canvasses, we have sourced a really good new 15oz cotton
duck. This has had to be made for us as we were dissatisfied with what was available – we think we
now have the best heavyweight canvas on the market. Having maintained our extremely cheap price
on Talens Gesso, Paintworks is definitely a good place to start if you make your own canvases.
We’ve improved our printmaking section with Permaset Aqua screen printing inks from Australia
which are brilliant on t-shirts – the “super cover” ones will print on black in one coat and barely affect
the softness of the fabric. Plus we have screens and squeegees. Have a look at our craft paint section for new fabric paints, pens and sprays.
Unable to resist artists’ papers and pads we now have Saunders Waterford in 638g with a lovely
smooth Hot Press surface, Khadi hand made coloured papers in stationery sizes plus quite a few new
watercolour and drawing pads and books. Try these with our new lightfast, waterproof Pitt Artists’
Pens in black, sepia and sanguine.

The discounted prices indicated by PWP (or Paintworks Price) are achieved by negotiation and
buying methods and never by a drop in quality. Our price list boasts some of the finest paints in the
world.
In addition to the discounts given with PWP (Paintworks Prices), we have highly competitive quantity
rates on paper and canvas. All other materials are subject to a 10% discount when you spend over
£130 or 15% discount if your order exceeds £270.
We value our mail order customers and offer them the same good service, choice and prices as our
shop customers. We will send practically anything we sell (there are certain restrictions on aerosols and
inflammables) and charge carriage at what it costs us.
If any materials you buy from us are found to be faulty we will refund
or replace them. If you wish to return perfect goods complete with purchase receipt we will exchange
them or give you a credit note. In fairness to all our customers we DO NOT take back paper (as even
the most careful handling can cause slight damage) or pens and aerosols (as we cannot guarantee
that they have not been used).

SOFT PASTELS & FI XATI VES
A unique and very delicate medium. The difference between
the ranges is generally one of softness and colour intensity. The
better quality pastels are much easier to handle and can be laid
over lower layers with much less disturbance. Bright colours are
more intense and the range is broader and better balanced.

FIXATIVES
(We are pleased to point out that none of our aerosol
fixatives contain CFC's which damage the ozone layer) Use
fixatives for stabilizing drawings and pastels. A light coating will
help reduce the risk of smudging or pigment loss.
R O WN E Y
Handmade in Northumberland in the traditional manner,
Unison Pastels are pure, soft and smooth. The range of 244
colours (at the last count) are created in harmonious colour
fields and sold in boxes of nuances of one colour, eg 18
reds. They also come in theme sets for landscape or portrait.
The more expensive special collection contains full blooded,
deeply pigmented colours.

A very different medium to soft pastels, these are pigments
mixed with a wax medium and as such never truly dry; the wax

Prices are correct at the time of printing this price list but they are liable to change without any notification and
we reserve the right to charge the prices current at the time of receiving an order.
All orders must be paid for in full before they can be collected or despatched - payment may be made by cash,
cheque, Switch, Access or Visa.
We cannot absolutely guarantee delivery times and failure of goods to arrive by a given time will not be deemed
reason for non-acceptance of the goods.
Any damage or shortage in an order must be notified in writing within 7 working days of receipt of the order.
Please retain all packaging until goods have been checked.
We will not accept returned goods unless we have been contacted prior to their despatch giving the reason for
their return. The cost of returning damaged or faulty goods will be borne by Paintworks but we insist on the right
to specify the means of shipment for return. For all other returns it will be the responsibility of the purchaser to
pay for shipping and to ensure packaging is adequate for safe delivery. We recommend that you obtain proof of
despatch.
Paintworks will not be held responsible for any loss, damage or inconvenience caused by the use of any items
provided by Paintworks beyond the replacement of goods deemed to be faulty. At no time will Paintworks liability
exceed the price paid for the items purchased. This does not affect your statutory rights
