Crop Care strengthens product range with new registrations
Crop Care will kick off 2015 with 10 new registrations and label
extensions, giving Territory Sales Managers and distributors more
opportunities to promote the company’s product range.
The impressive list of new registrations includes Nail 600
(carfentrazone 600 g/L) herbicide, two new herbicides for use
in imidazolinone tolerant crops and the extension of Emblem
(fluazinam 500 g/L) fungicide into vineyards for the control of
Eutypa dieback in grapevines.
Sentry
In July 2014, the APVMA
approved the registration of
Sentry (imazapic 525 g/kg
+ imazapyr 175 g/kg), the first Crop Care product for preemergence control of annual grasses and broadleaf weeds
in imidazolinone herbicide tolerant canola.
HERBICIDE
Andre Sabeeney, National Product Development Manager with
Crop Care, attributed these new opportunities to the company’s
commitment to Australian based research and development.
“This gives canola growers more flexibility in timing their
weed control, by broadening the application window with
pre-emergence and post-emergence options to choose
from,” Andre said.
“With these registrations, we are delivering on our promises
to distributors, showing how much we can achieve from local
investments in R & D and regulatory affairs,” Andre said.
“Depending on the season, Sentry can be used early while
Intercept can be applied later, allowing growers to achieve
more effective weed control.”
Nail 600
Emblem
Heading the list is Nail 600, the new
600 g/L formulation that received
APVMA approval in November 2014, in time for markets in fallow
weed control and maintaining clean tree lines and vine lines over
summer.
The newest registration in
horticulture is for Emblem
fungicide (fluazinam 500
g/L), which was approved for
control of Eutypa dieback in grapevines in October 2014.
Nail 600 is a unique blend of carfentrazone-ethyl coupled with
premium solvents and surfactants, so it is easy to handle and
performs well in the field.
Recognised as a major disease of grapevines around
the world, Eutypa dieback is becoming more prevalent
in cool climate vineyards in Australia, particularly in
South Australia and Tasmania.
Andre said Nail 240 had become the market leading carfentrazone
formulation since its launch in 2012.
“Crop Care will continue to supply Nail 240 along with Nail 600,
which has benefited from the work of our chemists to produce
an enhanced formulation in a 10 – 40 mL/ha super-concentrate
that reduces solvent exposure, is easy to measure and pour and
compatible with more than 40 different products.”
Unity
A minor formulation change to
Unity (carfentrazone 240 g/L)
was approved in November 2014
this providesa better Poisons Schedule profile, from S5 to
Unscheduled. Compared to the competitor product Affinity Force.
Intercept
Andre said a key objective of Crop
Care’s R & D effort had been to
develop additional tools for use in
imidazolinone crops.
“We are well under way in meeting this objective with two
registrations,” he said.
In December 2014, the APVMA approved the registration of
Intercept (imazamox 33 g/L + imazapyr 15 g/L), opening up a new
opportunity for Crop Care in the market for early post-emergence
control of annual grasses and broadleaf weeds in Imidazolinone
herbicide tolerant canola
“Intercept gives us access to this niche market and the
opportunity to compete against Intervix,” Andre said.
“This registration is a real breakthrough in vineyards
because it is the first fungicide that can be applied
after pruning through a commercial sprayer to
control Eutypa dieback,” Andre said.
“This makes it cheaper and far easier for vineyard
managers to control the fungus using standard
spray equipment, instead of hand painting a
fungicide on pruning wounds to manage the
disease.”
Andre said this new registration for Emblem
resulted from collaboration with Dr Mark
Sosnowski, who has been heavily involved
in industry research to find alternatives for
managing Eutypa at SARDI (South Australian
Research and Development Institute).
“Dr Sosnowski considers Emblem as a
significant step forward in the bid to save
Australia’s premium quality vines from
devastation by trunk disease,” he said.
An industry funded study ranked trunk
disease as the fourth most important
grapevine disease – behind powdery
mildew, downy mildew and botrytis.
This latest registration comes on top
of recent work to promote Emblem
among potato growers, for the control
of two key diseases, Late Blight and
Sclerotinia.

Senator 600 –
(uncoloured)
Dormex
Plums have been added to the label
for Dormex plant growth regulator
(cyanamide 520g/L), in addition to apples, grapes and kiwifruit.
Dormex is the best choice for regulating bud burst, promoting
uniform and earlier flowering for easier orchard management and
harvesting, as well as larger, more uniform fruit.
Captan
Strawberry growers now have the
option of applying more than 5
sprays of Captan 900 WG (900 g/kg)
over the growing season, following the removal of the maximum 5
spray per season restriction from the label.
The label for Senator 600
(imidacloprid 600 g/L) has
been extended to include control of stored grain pests.
Barrack
Betterstick
The broad spectrum
fungicide, Barrack Betterstick
(chlorothalonil 720 g/L),
has been approved by use on chickpeas and lentils in
Tasmania, for the control of Ascochyta blight in chickpeas
and Ascochyta blight and grey mould in lentils.
Coupled with the one-day withholding period, this will be valuable
for strawberry growers when there is high pressure from diseases
such as grey mould, Gloeosporium fruit rot, Phytophthora fruit rot,
black spot and leaf blight.
Protege
Protege insecticide seed treatment
(fipronil 500 g/L) has been
registered for the control of redlegged earth mite in canola and
false wireworm in sorghum and sunflowers.
INSECTICIDAL SEED TREATMENT
It is also approved to protect sorghum and sunflower seedlings
from attack by black field earwig.
