About the University and
Department.
Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal
University was established as a State
University vide U.P. State Government
notification no. (10)/(865)/15/(75)(85)/64
dated 23 November 1973.The University
has subsequently been upgraded to Central
University by an Act of Parliament i.e. the
Central Universities Act 2009. The
University has thus been entrusted with new
responsibilities to guide its students, faculty
and all other stakeholders to achieve
excellence in academics and strive for all
round development of students. Department
of Statistics offers UG &PG Statistics and
Ph.D. Course .The thrust areas of research
are Operations Research and Demography.
Department has well equipped Lab with
internet facility and Statistical Software.
How to Reach Srinagar
Road :It is reached by national highway
NH58. Srinagar is about 100 km from
Rishikesh which is the last city on the plains
of Uttarakhand and from where the
mountains start.
Railway :The nearest railway stations are at
Rishikesh and Kotdwara,
Air:The nearest airport is the Jolly Grant
airport, Dehradun 150 km (93 mi) away.

Announcement
General information:-
We are pleased to announce that the
Department of Statistics, H.N.B.U. Srinagar (G)
is organizing a workshop on “Analysis of
Official Statistics Using SPSS” sponsored by
MOS&PI, New Delhi. The said workshop is
proposed during February 18 -20 ,2015.
Participant will be limited and will be
decided on the basis of merit and proven ability of
the desirous participants having interest in the
purposed area. The selection will be done through
screening committee based on the biodata of the
participants..
Official Statistics as a subject need to be
brought into the curriculum of statistics at the
PG level. Considering that the subject is fairly
new in majority of universities.
SPSS is the statistical software widely used
now a day for statistical analysis, so needed to
be made known to researchers for their work.
So, dept has decided to introduce 3 days
workshop on Official Statistics Using SPSS.

learn the ideas and use them in their own
researches. The discussion will be often
supported with laboratory assignments and
software training. Eminent experts are invited
to deliver lectures. There will be one session
for Paper presentation.
