Sankranti is an appropriate
time to look at the good and
bad things that happened to
our neighbourhood last year
and work to do better this year.
Veena Rajappa of Clean and
Green Mission Team (CGMT)
says that with the good
progress made in 2014, we
should move forward towards
making Rajarajeshwari Nagar
ward a “zero waste” ward in
2015.
According to her, the highlights last year were:
1. Segregation continued in
44 odd apartment complexes,
and about 7 auto routes continued to operate.
2. A new dry waste collection centre (DWCC) was set
up in December 2014. With
this ours is the only ward
with two fully functional
DWCCs.
3. More homes and
apartments took to in-situ
composting.
Corporator G.H. Ramachandra helped in getting land
for the second DWCC and
starting it.
“We had to fight against land
mafia and the umpteen delays
of BBMP to get to this state,”
Veena says and recalls that he
asked the concerned officials
to give power and water connections for the new DWCC
on priority basis.
As the year ended, one
could not help recall the article
and pictures sent by Dr.
Manini Mudgal which show
how good work can go bad,
when civic consciousness is
lacking (Reachout, November-end issue).
But, we do not lose hope
and move forward with confidence and work towards our
goal – secure a clean and green
Rajarajeshwari Nagar.
CGMT invites all citizens to
join hands for this purpose.
