The Discussion Forum is the Animal Welfare Foundation’s (AWF) flagship
annual event, supporting the Foundation’s objective to improve animal welfare
through debate and discussion. The AWF Discussion Forum has become a valued
annual opportunity for practising vets, veterinary nurses, veterinary students
and associated industry professionals to identify and discuss important welfarerelated issues with a view to influencing future animal welfare policy.
This flagship event has raised the profile of a variety of serious animal welfare
issues and led both to new research and to the development of policies.
Building on the success of 2014’s event, the 2015 forum will feature a wide
range of high-profile speakers; hosted in a new location allowing even more
people to attend and cover a diverse range of topics, ranging from antimicrobial
resistance to stunning methods at slaughter.
The veterinary industry underpins the critical role that veterinary professionals
have in driving improvements in animal welfare practices throughout the
farming, pet and animal entertainment industries.
As a recognised contributor to animal health and welfare, we would like to

Our audience is diverse; over 200 delegates are
drawn from across the veterinary world including vets
from a wide range of practices (both independent and
corporate), senior veterinary academics, veterinary
students, veterinary nurses, politicians and government
advisors, animal charities, and industry press.
A high proportion of vets attending are decision
makers within their businesses.
We offer a diverse and fascinating programme by
leading veterinary surgeons and academics. Divided
into four sessions, it covers specific and topical animal
welfare issues with practical steps towards solutions.

The event is filmed and as a result the audience will
be expanded several times over through the AWF and
BVA websites and YouTube, reaching the wider BVA

We’ve moved to a larger venue (due to
oversubscription) and the forum will be held at One

About the Animal Welfare Foundation
The Animal Welfare Foundation is the veterinary
profession’s own animal welfare charity. Over 30
years of improving the welfare of animals by:

●● supporting veterinary education;
●● providing pet care advice; and
●● stimulating debate.
Over the last 30 years we have:
●● funded ground breaking research including endemic
and painful conditions in cattle, sheep and horses and
revolutionised pain management for cats in surgery
