The Collect
Almighty and ever-living God, clothed in majesty,
whose beloved Son was this day presented in the Temple,
in substance of our flesh:
grant that we may be presented to you
with pure and clean hearts, by your Son Jesus Christ our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

Prayers for the World Church
Christian Aid produces each year a brochure entitled 'Count Your Blessings'.
It encourages us with a sentence for each day of Lent to give a small sum to
Christian Aid in response to our own blessings. For example, when we 'run
the tap' to get hot water to give 10p for each time we do that on the chosen
day, remembering those who cannot just run clean water. Let us pray for the
work of Christian Aid and the church partners overseas who administer the
funds, and for our response to the needs of the poor in whatever way.

Evensong Processional Hymn
When candles are lighted on Candlemas Day
the dark is behind us and spring’s on the way.
A glory dawns in every dark place,
the light of Christ, the fullness of grace.
The kings have departed, the shepherds have gone,
the child and his parents are left on their own.
A glory dawns…
They go to the temple, obeying the law
and offer two pigeons, the gift of the poor.
A glory dawns…
But Anna and Simeon recognise there
the Christ-child who came at the turn of the year.

The old who have suffered and waited so long
see hope for the world as they welcome the young.

They gaze at God’s wonderful answer to prayer,

nursery rhymes” by John Edwards in Church House
9th February 8pm Churches Together in Hitchin Council Meeting at the
Society of Friends Meeting House on the corner of Bedford Road and Brand
Street. Tea/coffee from 7.30pm. The meeting will begin with a celebration of the
50th anniversary of the founding of CTH, followed by items of business and finally
the Revd John Hardaker, the new Chair of Churches Together in Hitchin will lead
a session on the theme ’Whole-life discipleship'. All welcome. For more

20th -21st February St Faith's Pantomime – ‘Robin Hood' by Bob Hammond.
Performances are 7pm, Friday 20th February, 2.30pm & 7pm Saturday 21st
February. St Faiths’ pantomime is now in its 7th year and this show should provide
for a lot of fun and family entertainment, suitable for all ages. Tickets available
now from 01462 451015, cost £7 per adult £4 for children (under 12). To avoid
disappointment please book early.
24th February 7:30pm “Is the Bible Reliable?” Theology Cafe at Hitchin
Christian Centre. Led by Dr Brendan Devitt. Refreshments provided. All welcome

25th April Caring for God’s Earth - Growing Sustainable Communities
Conference at St Albans Cathedral: The North Herts Inter-Faith Forum is hoping
to organise a local Inter-Faith group to attend this Conference. A poster &
programme are available on the Cathedral website. Members of churches can
book places independently, however it would be helpful if they could let Revd
Austin Smith on 01462 437433 know that they hope to attend, if possible before
4th February.

The pulpit flowers are given today by Stephen and Val Holland for the glory
of God and in celebration of 34 years of marriage.

the collection at the recent Week of Prayer for Christian Unity service at

St Mary’s, through its Charitable Giving Group, supports
AquAid Lifeline Fund’s Philip Veale Children’s Centre in
Malawi caring for over 150 orphans in Gomani. AquAid can
provide a whole month’s child care for just £8. Ask Robin
Sternberg  684588 for more details, or look on the Church
House noticeboard.
All communicant members of the Christian Church are welcome
to receive the bread and the wine at a celebration of Holy
Communion. Others are welcome at the altar rail to receive a
blessing. If you wish for a blessing please ask.
For very young churchgoers: Please feel free to be in church
during the services, but if you feel very distressed the choir vestry
(at the back of church) also doubles as the "early years gurgling
room". In there you will find a cabinet of toys. The room has glass
doors so that you and your parents can see and hear services,
but it also has an environment where you can feel at ease to be
yourself and gurgle away.
