LUKE’S On the evening of Sunday 1st March, we are delighted to be the venue for 'Remarkable Lives' - an inspirational event with powerful missionary stories from our Christian heritage, and worship to refresh and draw you to the throne of God. International speakers Mark and Joanna Williamson lead presentations on the lives on William Wilberforce and Amy Carmichael – two ordinary people who allowed God to use them, and consequently led remarkable lives of deep holiness and incredible mission. Their powerful stories and experiences have much to teach us on what it means to live a life for God. William Wilberforce’s 20 year campaign to abolish the slave trade ranks as one of the greatest humanitarian movements of all time. He and a small group of friends had their eyes opened to the shocking brutality and injustice of the trade, took on the prevailing financial system and economic wisdom of the day, and won a great victory for justice, human rights, and the cause of freedom. Amy Carmichael was born in Northern Ireland in 1867 and after a clear call from God to offer her life to mission, she went for a brief time to Japan and then Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). Subsequently, she settled in a remote part of southern India, where she began saving children from the terrible practice of temple prostitution. She formed the Dohnavur Fellowship in 1901 and created a sanctuary for over one thousand children, who would otherwise have faced a bleak future. And even when confined to a bed of suffering for the last 20 years of her life, she continued to supervise the work of the ever growing Fellowship, write books, poems, songs and train leaders. The event commences at 6.30pm and also includes worship led by Devon Brown and Simon Cooper, who combine congregational worship with new songs to inspire. This is an ecumenical event which is FREE to attend and we’d love to fill St. Luke’s. Please spread the word among your friends, family or work colleagues and invite them to join us for this special evening as we celebrate two "Remarkable Lives" and hear more amazing stories of how God builds His Kingdom through the lives of ordinary individuals. Flyers for the event are available in the Foyer. SIGN UP FOR THE ST. LUKE’S EMAIL LIST If you would like to receive the Notices each Friday via email, plus other information in digital form from time to time, like last year’s Lent Prayer Guide, please add your name to our email list by contacting us at [email protected]. PRAYERS FOR REVIVAL AND KINGDOM GROWTH The Wirral Methodist Circuit Evangelism Team is arranging a monthly opportunity for people to come together to pray for Revival and Kingdom Growth. Moreton Methodist Church is the venue for the next get-together on Saturday 28th February, but why wait until then? Please pray, whenever you can, that God’s will may be achieved here on the Wirral, and that we can find new strength and enthusiasm in our quest to make disciples of all people and to share His love with a needy world. PANCAKE PARTY On Tuesday 17th February, from 5.15pm until 6.45pm, we’re holding a Pancake Party at St. Luke’s for all children of primary school age (Reception (F2) to Year 6). We’re having pizza and pancakes for tea, preceded by some fun activities and games. Kids: Why not bring a friend from school – everyone welcome! Parents: To help us assess numbers for the catering, please add your child’s name to the list in the Community Room, phone the Church office on 632 6524 to confirm attendance or send an email to [email protected] by Sunday 15th February. CLASSICAL CONCERT Wirral Symphony Orchestra regularly use St. Luke’s for their rehearsals and the fruits of their labours can be heard later this month when the Orchestra, conducted by Jonathan Small, play Elgar’s ‘Enigma Variations’, and Berlioz’ Symphony ‘Harold In Italy' at a concert in Hoylake Chapel at 7.30pm on Saturday 21st February. Tickets are £13 & £11 (for over 60’s), £6 (for under 16’s). There is a £1 reduction if bought in advance and tickets can be purchased from the Hoylake Community Shop in Market Street.
