As we begin our winter break I want to wish you all well during this festive time of year. I hope
you all have a pleasant and safe break.

Hopefully you had a chance to come out on December 11th for the Holiday Concert or have had a
chance to take in a basketball game. The concert was excellent and our boys’ basketball teams
have started their season strong.

A reminder, students return to school on Tuesday January 6th. We all look forward to seeing the 1/6 - School
students again in 2015.

Report Cards will be going home on January 26th.
Starting at the end of January will be our mid-year Iowa Test for 2nd -8th grade. This test will be
compared to the one from the fall to provide our teachers with further data about student growth.
Tests will be taken in the areas of reading and math.

Congratulations to both the 7 and 8
grade volleyball teams on their FANTASTIC seasons! The 8th grade team finished
the season
with a 9-1
record taking
first
place
in
the Blue
Division.
They also
won
3rd
place
in
the Leyden Norwood Athletic Conference
Tournament! The 7th grade team finished
the season with
a 8-2 record taking first
place in
the Blue
Division.
They also won 4th place in the Leyden
Norwood Athletic Conference Tournament!

changes in phone numbers. We need the correct phone/cell number so that we are able to contact parents during the school day
for attendance and/or emergency purposes. We must be able to
contact the child’s parent/guardian and adults on the emergency
contact list.
Santa Shop
Thank you to all the
volunteers who helped
make the Santa Shop a
success. The students
enjoyed their shopping
experience.
Lunch Orders
If you want your child to receive a hot lunch, an order form MUST be
filled out for each month. The lunch staff is no longer responsible to
put an order in due to children having possible food allergies. We cannot guarantee extra lunches will be available each day. If you have any
questions, please call 708-453-4847 and ask for the lunchroom.
PRIDE!
The Pride Committee has been busy
working on planning events for students
and teachers to enjoy! From Buddy Activities, to Spirit Weeks, to Teacher Appreciation Goodies, to Planning Pride
Fun Day! This year’s Pride Fun Day is
going to be amazing! Students will have
the opportunity to move from one fun
station to another with their Pride Buddy! We are having a
Pride-riffic year!

been the Family and Consumer Science students
assisting the
kindergarteners baking in
the foods lab.
This year they
prepared reindeer cookies
to share with
their families.

To help meet the needs of the homeless the 7th grade Family & Consumer Sciences students used their
sewing expertise to make fleece hats
& matching scarves. Adrian also
crochet scarves to accompany the
hats. The Norridge Home Meal Delivery clients were given a handmade
tree ornament. Students stitched &
stuffed the trees using a variety of
sewing skills & tools.

YEAR’S YEARBOOK!
Yearbooks will be on sale from January 9th
until February 6th. Each student will be given
an envelope order form. Yearbooks are
$21.00. Please make checks payable to: Norridge District 80.
Giles school is participating in an exciting program
that encourages children in grades K through 6 to read for fun.
Read to Succeed is a free program from Six Flags. Every student
who completes six hours of recreational reading before the
school’s deadline of February 3, 2015, is eligible for one free admission ticket valid at participating Six Flags theme parks. Your
child already received their reading log in their Friday Folder. If
you have misplaced it, please have your child stop in the office to
pick up another form.

The second grade
classes
enjoyed
comparing
and
analyzing favorite
versions of The
Gingerbread
Man story. In addition to reading
the stories, we
made our own Gingerbread Man cookies! Mrs. Zurzolo
and her seventh
grade Home Economics classes were
kind enough to assist in the baking
process.
Students
learned to cut out,
decorate, and bake
cookies. The older
students were so patient and supportive
with the younger students. It was a great
learning experience
for all.

Market Day orders are due January 14th and pick up is on January 17th from 12:00 - 12:45 pm.
