Weekly Bulletin - First Baptist Church of Hollidaysburg, Pa
Want to be made whole? To make you whole, God sent his Son Jesus to become human, show us God, be killed in our place, come to life, return to his Father, and come again to make everything right forever for those who belong to him. Want a share in that? Turn from living your way (sin) to living God's way, and trust that only Jesus and what he did can save you. Tell us about it and be baptized (immersed in water) to show you're a Christian. And stick with it! Want to know more? Ask the person who brought you or contact Pastor Cory. Meeting on Wednesdays, January 28 through March 4, 7:009:00pm, at the home of Larry Kanski, 202 Scenic Pine Drive, Hollidaysburg. Get involved and be part of the “Journey of Grace” that reflects God’s redemptive story and continues to transform lives and communities. Give generously to the AFC Offering 2015. Women's Gathering at Patty Montgomery's house, Saturday, Feb 7th, 7pm. This will be an evening get together for all the women of FBC to relax, talk, and get to know each other better. There will be refreshments and games for those who would like to play. Please let Patty, 329-0504, or Karla, 931-6870, know if you're coming. Patty’s home is located at 112 Max Lane, Hollidaysburg (off of Lower Brush Mountain Road). A new church directory is available in the back of the church. Please pick up a copy today. It’s not too late to register for our women’s retreat. All FBC women, high school and up, are invited and encouraged to attend this time of fellowship and fun, February 27-28, 2015, as we connect with God and each other. Please let TJ Horne know if you are planning on attending. What is THE CLASS? AN INTRODUCTION to First Baptist Church, explaining what it’s about, and how to play a part in it. A WORLDVIEW, presenting the basic faith-perspective that shapes this church. AN EXPERIENCE enriching people’s individual connection with God. A PRACTICE, helping people put their experience with God into words and share it with others in a natural way. A COMMUNITY fostering genuine conversations and significant relationships among the people who take it. Who is THE CLASS for? Someone who is curious about the claims of Christianity or the Baptist expression of it. The “significant other” of a member of First Baptist Church who wants to know why it matters to him or her. Someone who has committed him- or herself to Jesus Christ and has never been baptized. A follower of Jesus who formerly worshiped at another church and is interested in joining this one. A member of First Baptist Church who wants to experience what others who have taken THE CLASS have been talking about. What are THE CLASS’s requirements? Talk to Pastor Cory about taking part, by February 1 at the latest. Attend three 4-hour interactive sessions on Saturday mornings this spring. If you work on Saturday mornings, let us know. Complete some simple homework between sessions. It won’t be hard, but it will require thoughtfulness. You will not be pressured to join the church or made to feel guilty if you don’t. The opportunity to join the church will be there, but we do not assume that participants will necessarily do that. Participants in Today’s Worship Service: Musicians: Kelly Hartman, song leader/keyboard; Nancy Sirivanakarn, violin; Dave Bickers, guitar; Daryl Hartman, bass Junior Church: None Church Nursery: Kris Helsel & Phoebe Snyder Greeters: Steve & Deb Patterson Tech Team: Nick Montgomery This week pray for Asia Population: 4,166,741,314 Urbanites: 43% Peoples: 4,860 Languages: 2,322 Religion: Muslim: 26%, Hindu: 23%, non-religious:16%, Buddhist:11%, Christian: 9%, , Ethnoreligious: 2%. Evangelical: 3.5%; Annual Evangelical Growth: 3.0%. Answer to Prayer The emergence of a mature, international missionary involvement. The growth of commitment and involvement in cross-cultural outreach in India is praiseworthy. South Korea, the Philippines and the Chinese diaspora are major components of the world’s missionary outreach. The Back to Jerusalem vision in China and the vision to mobilize the Filipino emigrant workforce could be the two most significant dynamics for world mission in the 21st Century. Yet humility, cultural sensitivity and genuine willingness to work together across denominations, nationalities and ethnicities are all needed for Asian mission work as much as for anywhere else. Challenge for Prayer Trafficking is a major means of illegal and illicit income. Drug trafficking remains the most well known and violent of these trades. There are two main hubs of heroin production: Afghanistan and the Golden Triangle. Human trafficking, usually for manual labour or the sex trade, has accelerated rapidly in the last few years. It particularly affects the poorer countries, where women are sold or enter into indentured slavery and are forced to pay off debt through prostitution. But it also affects wealthier countries; places such as Japan, parts of China, Thailand, India and many Arab countries traffic in girls from abroad to populate brothels. International trade in illegally logged hardwoods and endangered species has also soared due to demand from East Asia’s growing financial elite. The wealthy and criminal networks prosper as a result; the rural poor invariably suffer.
