Knowing how to keep love alive in a relationship can seem easy, but it’s actually more difficult that most people imagine. What many don’t understand is that we grow and evolve as individuals constantly, and our likes, dislikes and opinions too change all the time. There are more mysteries and magic that takes place in a bedroom than anywhere else in the world. And this is what Tales From The Bedroom is all about. Stories of the mysteries, magic, love and deceit told through 10 couples who have nothing in common except for one bedroom they sleep in every night. This show features the comedic talents of Douglas Lim, Kuah Jenhan, Phoon Chi Ho and Dr. Jason. A stand-up comedy performance in English which features observations, anecdotes, theories and even song parodies. Reviews of their shows have ranged from “It’s ok” to “OMG, this is the pinnacle, the apex (or APEKS) of comedy”. Come find out for yourselves. The Actors Studio Seni Teater Rakyat was happy to play a role in the printing of the book alongside UA Enterprise. Usman's beloved daughter Lyna, her husband Rahim and their children and about 60 relatives and friends of Usman was present that afternoon. I attach a beautifully written account of the launch of KEKASIH, by Hafiz Hamzah of Daily Seni, in words that my humble self 6 cannot find in me to express. uang dewan kecil Indicine di lantai atas klpac Sabtu lalu penuh dengan orang-orang yang menjadi ‘hamba’ dunia penulisan; dari Prof. Muhammad Haji Salleh, Dr. Lim Swee Tin, Baha Zain, Pak Samad Said, Dinsman, Siti Zainun, – sekadar menyebut beberapa nama. Hafiz Hamzah Daily Seni Thank you Hafiz, Lyna and all friends of Usman. God willing The Actors Studio Seni Teater Rakyat will bring back the presentation of poetry, like was done many, many years ago at Century Hotel. If you are interested, do email me faridah@ theactorsstudio. com.my, or sms 012 3381265. Thank you for supporting Malaysian Theatre. Faridah Merican is the Executive Producer and Co-Founder of The Actors Studio Malaysia, The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre and the Performing Arts Centre of Penang. She is seen here at the KEKASIH book launch. 7 Usman Awang. Dia memetik dan membacakan STAGING the Golden Years Age isn't a barrier if we are passionate about something. There's no such thing as, “I am too old for that”, and veteran actor Mano Maniam holds on to this, as he gets ready for the Theatre for Seniors Workshop this month. A workshop that runs annually at The Academy at klpac, Mano strives to give senior citizens a chance to explore themselves in the field of performing arts. 8 Ever wondered what kind of life will one have to lead after retirement? Imagine if you were an accountant or a teacher, and what will life hold for you after retirement? Wouldn't it be the right time to exercise the creative muscles, and perhaps go towards discovering who you really are, because now there is time and space for you to do what you want. Learning is a lifelong process, and its never too late to be on stage, letting emotions flow out through the portrayal of various characters. Theatre For Seniors Workshop has been conducted previously, in The Actors Studio Academy @ klpac and 2014 will mark the fifth year of this programme in the running. The workshop has always gained a positive feedback. Those who have been part of the workshop tells that they have the chance to be a “different person” and get the chance of “being in someone else's shoes.” The workshop aims to have people express their feelings positively, freely and without inhibition. It also gives a platform for people to get together and exploring their talents. The arts is a field that is open for everybody, and it does not discriminate. Those who have been too busy with the worldly worries should now take a break, and come explore their talents and creative muscles with Mano. In the past, the workshop has seen people from all walks of life, and different careers coming to be part of the arts. Theatre, does not simply mean acting, but it is far deeper and more than that. Writing, directing, studio work and more are involved, and it needs a degree of analysis, and it revolves around how to make the characters come alive. Theatre for Seniors workshop not only focuses on acting, but also on how to write a script and direct it. It is a place where one can let their ideas and thoughts, mingled with experience, flow creatively and come alive on stage. Mano believes that the seniors too, need attention, and their thought, counts as well. The seniors too, have feelings and they too, have stories to be told. It isn't right to forget what they have to share with the world, because, their stories and experiences are what has shaped us into who we are now. Theatre is the perfect medium to unlock the stories and experiences that they have amassed through out and let them speak for themselves. The workshop allows the seniors to become more confident, and contribute something to the world of arts. Mano Maniam's Acting for Seniors will run for a duration of eight days during the weekends from the end of February.
