Welcome to the 13th annual
Australian Broadcasting
Digital Media Summit!
2015 is a really exciting year to be in broadcasting.
Netflix is coming. Local counterparts have launched. Linear broadcasting is facing a revolution.
This year’s agenda brings together some of the most forward-thinking trailblazers from the industry. The 2015
speaker line-up is a supreme round-up of those leaders bridging the gap between traditional and emerging media
platforms.
ESPN, Starlight Runner Entertainment, BTTV, Channel 4, ABC, SBS, AFL Media and more, will share their pitfalls and
success stories.
Well known industry commentator and journalist Jonathan Holmes will act as conference chair and he’s sure to ask
the right questions and generate the most engaging discussion.
As the former host of Media Watch and a regular columnist with The Age, Holmes is an expert in the media landscape
in Australia. And he’s certainly the best person for the job of joining our International Keynote speakers ‘on the sofa’,
in post- presentation interviews, a new feature of the 2015 agenda.
What’s more, the March event offers more networking time than ever before.
You asked for a chance to really engage and talk ‘shop’ with your peers and industry partners, and we’ve responded.
A series of peer-to-peer roundtable discussions will see all attendees come together in small groups, to tackle a topic
in a mini-workshop fashion. With a table-host to guide you and a pre-assigned subject, the roundtables are where
you can share war stories and swap strategies in a way regular conferences don’t allow. There’s no death by powerpoint, no passive participation and certainly no sales-pitches. This is a rich opportunity for you to really talk with your
colleagues and peers and network with industry folk you mightn’t otherwise get to meet!
Further to the roundtables, the Summit will also provide delegates with 3 dedicated streams to choose from,
succinctly breaking the agenda down into:
Business and strategy
Technology
Digital integration, design and execution
This means you get more content than ever before and there’s something for everyone in the team, so your entire
cross-platform portfolio can benefit from attending.
Lastly, our annual networking drinks function is a must-attend for conference delegates and speakers alike and it’s a
great place to rub shoulders with the key players in your field. At the end of day-one, the drinks reception is always
well attended and has been known to foster many relationships and partnerships over the 13 year’s this event has
been running.
We hope you see the value in attending this Summit as much as we are confident that the speakers, content and
format will excite and inspire you and your company to forge ahead in 2015.
We look forward to seeing you there,

Meet the speakers!
The “father of cable sports”
Bill Rasmussen, Founder ESPN, Legendary Entrepreneur , Strategic
Business Advisor (USA) – via video link
His brainwave for a 24-hour cable sport TV station is today’s worldwide leader in sports
broadcasting – ESPN. Bill Rasmussen founded the legendary TV network in 1978. In just 14
months, it was live on the air, changing the way we watch sports forever.
Now a best-selling author and strategic business advisor, Bill is addressing the 2015 Summit
on lessons in fostering entrepreneurial capital and innovation, via video link and live from the
USA. Don’t miss this sure-to-be inspiring and thought provoking session from a legend of the
golden age of TV!
The market disrupter
Marc Watson, Former CEO, BTTV (UK)
BT Sport became one the most disruptive and most successful media launches in the UK since
BSkyB, when it launched in 2013. And Marc Watson was the man at the helm of the British
telco’s TV arm – BTTV - launching the channel into one of the toughest markets in the world.
Confounding sceptics and attracting interest around the world, Marc built a base of one million
TV set top boxes and five million households during his tenure. He’s in Australia for the first
time to tell that story.
The world leading transmedia expert
Jeff Gomez, CEO, Starlight Runner Entertainment (USA)
He consults to Fortune 500 companies, has been referred to as the Hollywood ‘go-to’ guy and
can claim Pirates of the Caribbean, Avatar and Dexter as portfolio high-points. Jeff Gomez
is the world leading expert on expanding entertainment properties, premium brands and
socio-political themes into highly successful transmedia franchises and international campaigns.
Offering strategic planning and production for the extension of narrative content across digital
and traditional platforms, Jeff is the ultimate storyteller and transmedia genius in deepening
audience engagement, generating massive fan communities and multiple revenue streams.
The game changing data-driven marketer
Gill Whitehead, Director of Audience Technologies and Insight,
Channel 4 (UK)
She’s been named as one of the top five industry leaders to watch in digital, by Broadcast
magazine, and listed on the IQ Big Data 50 as one of the most influential people in data-driven
marketing in the UK. Gill Whitehead is leading the newly created Audience Technologies and
Insight department at Channel 4, the UK’s most boundary-pushing broadcaster, renowned for
its innovative approaches to audience engagement and ground-breaking content. With an early
career in the BBC and stints in finance and business consulting, Gill gets the audience you are
trying to attract and knows the data to reach them!

9:40 | Multi-platform narrative creation: transmedia strategies
and solutions
In the age of pervasive media, notions of convergence have
been dashed against the onslaught of dozens of devices and
screens of all shapes and sizes. And we know the broadcast
industry requires new techniques to reach an increasingly
fragmented audience, including young consumers who are
more engaged with interactive and social platforms than ever
before. As the world’s leading producer of transmedia narrative,
Jeff will use his Keynote to clearly and concisely detail the
practical methodology of integrating multi-platform planning,
development and production into traditional production
models, discussing innovations in IP creative development and
transmedia sponsorship and branded content.

PEER-to-PEER ROUNDTABLES
What
are they?
}
A roundtable is by definition “a meeting around a table” where participants brainstorm, debate and discuss a
series of relevant topics and problems. This increasingly popular event format is known to be dynamic, engaging,
fast-paced, interactive and more beneficial for attendees than the traditional conference presentation.
The Benefits
How they will work
• Engage with industry peers you might otherwise not get the chance to meet
Running in three rotations of 30 minutes each, there will be
approximately 15 roundtables to choose from, with delegates selecting
which tables they would like to attend ahead of the event.
• Hear directly from broadcasters facing the same issues and challenges as you
A central table-host will kick off the discussion, posing the difficult
questions and sparking the debate before it’s over to you, the
participants to delve into the topic at hand, share war stories, swap
strategies and talk shop!
• Gather knowledge and get answers to
your questions in an intimate, collaborative environment
• Take-away actionable insights for back at
the office!
