As more ministries, events and activities are taking place at
St. Luke’s, it is important to coordinate dates and facilities

Music Notes: The organ voluntaries are from the keyboard
works of Dutch composer and organist Jan Pieterszoon
Sweelinck (1562-1621). Sweelinck was organist at the Oude
Kerk of Amsterdam. He studied with Andrea Gabrieli in
Venice and was the teacher of German organ students
Samuel Scheidt, Jacob Praetorius, Melchior Schildt, and
Heinrich Scheidemann, predecessors of J.S. Bach.

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN
Thanks to your generous pledges and gifts, Year Two begins
the work with contractors in Reclaiming the Nave. We will
be paying particular attention to cash flow as this work
proceeds and we encourage new pledges and gifts – as well as
ongoing contributions against existing pledges.
As you may know, the campaign’s first year achieved its
$1.8 million pledge goal and took in more than half of its
goal in cash, resulting in a new Parish House roof which was
in the project’s scope. The Campaign will run through the
end of 2016.
Below is this week’s financial snapshot. If you have

Cash Reserve: As discussed at last month’s parish meeting,
a new account has been created titled “Wm. Blair Cash
Reserve.” An entry for $100,000 was recorded in September
in order to show this breakout on our Balance Sheet. A draw
of $35,000 has been made on the cash reserve account
through December. Cash flow is being monitored daily in
order to determine any further draws on this account.

FORMATION
St. Luke’s Children’s Formation
Age 3 through kindergarten, Good Shepherd atrium; Grades
1–3, True Vine atrium: 9:30 a.m., second floor in Parish
Hall. Children join their families at the Peace. Grades 3–5,
Covenant Class: after the 10 a.m. service, first floor in Parish
Hall. For more detail, including the Grade 3 options, visit

Parish Office Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Friday 9:00 AM – 1:00

PARISH LIFE
Call for Coffee Hour Volunteers in February. February
is a short month–and right now, we’re short of volunteers for
just one Sunday, February 22. Our newly returned Cherry
Radin will be heading up the Coffee Hour effort for most of
the month. So, please welcome her back by giving her a
hand!!! Talk to her after the 10:00 AM Eucharist to sign up
for a Sunday. You'll have Cherry's gratitude, and the smiling
faces of parishioners as your reward! Thank You!
(P.S.: March is a longer month. Consider offering your help
on March 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29! It’s actually fun helping
others to have fun!)
Childcare on Sunday Mornings. Parents of infants and
children through age 3 are invited to make use of the nursery
during the Sunday service. Nursery hours are 9:30 AM to
noon. The nursery is staffed by two experienced caregivers.
You may leave a snack for your child if you wish. Water and
goldfish are provided. In awareness that an increasing number
of children are allergic, we are making our nursery a nut (all
nuts) and chocolate – free area. A diaper-changing table and
supplies are always available whether or not your child stays in
the nursery. Feel free to drop by whenever the need arises! The
nursery is located at the end of the hallway on the first floor of
the parish house. Anyone will be happy to assist with
directions! For more information, contact the office.
Safe Children. The St. Luke’s community encourages
people, including children, to explore and become comfortable
with the locations we use in our liturgy. Adults need to
supervise children in this venerable, complicated building.
When children are not in Sunday School or the nursery, please
keep a watchful eye over them as they explore. Thank you.
Congratulations, Kat! We are pleased to announce that
Kat has been awarded a Pastoral Study Project grant through
the Louisville Institute to develop and pilot a multi-faith
podcast. The podcast will be developed in cooperation with
The Chicago Sunday Evening Club and other Chicago area
media outlets and will feature Chicago area clergy and
scholars speaking on ethics topics. Look for a huge launch at
the end of summer 2015!
This project is a great outgrowth of Kat’s work as a
community connector in the greater Evanston/Chicago area
and also as pastor at St. Luke's. A key part of Kat’s proposal
was pointing out how many of the younger families at St.
Luke’s are from non-Christian backgrounds and a desire to be
ever more conversant in inter-faith and multi-faith settings in
order to better serve the families of St. Luke’s. Kat will be away
May - July 2015.
Vision Keepers' Dinner
February 15, 2015, beginning at 5:30 P.M.
The Grand Ballroom of the Orrington Hotel
On Sunday, February 15th Cotton Fite will be being honored
as St. Luke’s Vision Keeper for 2015 at the Vision Keepers’
Dinner, a major fundraise to support the important, lifesaving work of Interfaith Action of Evanston. Cotton’s vision
has helped our parish and many other people see injustices in
the world, particularly in the Holy Land, and has helped
guide our action toward a just peace. He is Chairman of the
Seraj Library project, building children’s libraries in villages
and camps on the West Bank. At St. Luke’s he has preached
and provided significant leadership, has sold delicious fairtrade Palestinian Olive Oil weekly, shopped for Moveable
Feast, and baked altar bread.
Support Interfaith Action and honor Cotton by joining
us in attending this dinner! RSVP by February 5th by filling
out the reservation form below and writing a check for $75
per person and made out to Interfaith Action, with a
“memo” on the check, “Vision Keepers Dinner.” You may
give these to Birch Burghardt or Carolan Schroeder at
church, mail them to Interfaith Action, PO Box 1414,
