ABOUT BIG PLC
The Bukoba Investment Group (BIG) is a public liability company incorporated under the laws of Tanzania,
whose purpose, among others, is to establish a commercial bank. The BIG Bank, as it will be called, is
needed to provide the capital to be accessed by entrepreneurs wishing to invest in Kagera so that the
economy can be made vibrant to create employment and business opportunities and contribute to the
development of Kagera as a whole. .
The Kagera Region enjoys a strategic/ favourable geographical location as it is surrounded by Rwanda,
Burundi and Uganda and it is only a short trip to Kenya and the Democratic Republican of Congo, with Lake
Victoria providing the link to most of these countries. These constitute potential markets awaiting Kagera
to develop herself for export. To harness these opportunities, Kagera requires world class enterprises that
are located within Kagera itself. A bank with a clear focus and run on the basis of sound business
management principles is a prerequisite to the development of such enterprises
THE GOVERNANCE OF BIG PLC
There is an Interim Board whose task has been to establish the Company. The Interim Board members are:
Mr Ali Mufuruki (Chairman), Mr Protase Ishengoma (Company Secretary), Mr Francis Tabaro (Treasurer),
Ms Shubi Mukurasi (Shareholder and Public Relations), Mr. Abdukadir Mohamed and Mr. Rwegoshora
Kaijage. These directors are experienced individuals with knowledge ranging from accounting, legal,
information technology, banking and aviation. This Interim Board will be in place until the first Annual
General Meeting (AGM) that is scheduled to take place in Bukoba on the 28th of December. A new board
will be announced post the AGM.
THE VISION & MISSION OF BIG PLC
The vision of BIG PLC is to enable the economy of Kagera to have the capacity to provide the much needed
capital for the economy as a whole. This will be achieved through the establishment of a world class
commercial bank that must be managed by world class qualified and experienced personnel. The mission is
to establish the BIG Bank by 2019. The road to the establishment of the Bank will involve a number of
investment steps that the Board of Directors will determine from time to time.
THE FOUNDING SHAREHOLDERS OF BIG PLC
There are over 200 people as founding shareholders, with pledges amounting to TZS500M.
WHO CAN INVEST IN BIG PLC
We are inviting all individuals with a commitment for Kagera’s development to invest in BIG PLC. This
means buying a minimum of 20 shares worth TZS10, 000 each. The more shareholders we can get the
greater will be the potential to realise the BIG Bank’s objectives. As per the instructions on how to buy the
BIG shares, you will be required to buy your shares by depositing the amount you wish to invest equivalent
to TZS200,000 or more in value in the BIG PLC bank account
