Audition times will not exceed 15 minutes in length; if the contestant’s audition repertoire exceeds 15 minutes, please plan on a 15-minute audition. Judges may ask for any portion of the movement to be performed. All auditions must be for solo instrument and orchestra. The artist is responsible for providing an accompanist, at artist’s discretions. Tapes are not allowed. Please bring 3 copies of the music for the judges, which can be returned to the student 15 minutes after his/her audition time. The competition winner will be awarded the opportunity to perform a concerto with the BBSO at an education concert during the 2015-2016 season. The work he/she performs with the BBSO will be mutually agreed upon between the winner and the Music Director based upon instrumentation and programming considerations. Judges will award a first place winner to perform with the BBSO the following season. The first place winner will be from either Division A or Division B. o The second place winner will be named from the first place winner’s opposing Division. Second place receives a certificate of accomplishment with a $200 cash prize. o Judges will name two honorable mentions, one from each Division and award a $100 cash prize each. This competition is not open to a previous BBSO Winner of the same division or any relative of an individual currently within the BBSO organization. The applicant must be a Michigan resident. The decision of the judges is final. There are no cash awards or performance if a winner is not selected. Judges reserve the right to call for a second round and reserve the right to not choose a winner for every award. The String Competition will be held at Wilson Violins, 725 South Adams, Birmingham, MI 48009 on May 6 and 7, 2015 from 4-9 p.m. There is a possible third date of auditions on Friday, May 9, only if deemed necessary by the BBSO. Contestants will be notified about date/audition time by e-mail. Contestants may come ½ hour before their scheduled time to warm up. The winner of the String Competition will be informed by phone. The Award will be presented during the 2015-2016 season. This Application, along with a $50.00 non-refundable fee should be mailed along with a self-addressed, stamped envelope to The Young Artist Competition Chair, Ms. Millicent Berry 25435 Wareham Drive Huntington Woods, MI 48070. PLEASE MAKE CHECKS PAYABLE TO “BBSO” All entrants must be postmarked by April 18, 2015. The BBSO will try to accommodate your preferred date. Once your time is assigned, it cannot be changed.
