ABOUT ICSSR
Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) was established in the year of
1969 by the Government of India to promote research in social sciences in the country. The
Council was meant to review the progress of social science research and give advice to its
users. It sponsor social science research programmes and projects and administer grants to
institutions and individuals for research in social sciences. ICSSR institutes and administers
scholarships and fellowships for research in social sciences. It specifies areas in which social
science research is to be promoted and adopts special measures for development of research
in neglected or new areas. It also provides financial support to institutions, associations, and
journals engaged in social science research.
ICSSR arranges for technical training in research methodology and provides guidance
for research. It co-ordinate research activities and encourage programs for interdisciplinary
research. It develops and support centers for documentation services and supply of data.
ICSSR organizes, sponsors, and finances seminars, workshops and study groups. It
undertakes publication and assist publication of journals and books in social sciences. ICSSR
advises the Government of India on all matters pertaining to social science research as may
be referred to it from time to time; and take such measures generally as may be necessary
from time to time to promote social science research and its utilization.
OBJECTIVE OF THE PROGRAMME
]
The purpose of this course is to provide an overview on the concepts and theories of
different areas of research, formulation of research proposal and techniques of solving
problem. The aim is to give participants knowledge of preparing a research proposal and
completing the research on time. The course is expected to benefit participants from all social
sciences. This program will be beneficial to primarily all those, pursuing their doctoral work,
