THE REAL ESTATE COUNCIL OF BRITISH COLUMBIA SUMMER LAW STUDENT POSITION The Real Estate Council of British Columbia (RECBC) is seeking a law student to assist with special projects and to support and assist the RECBC's legal department this summer. The student will work under the supervision of the Director, Legal Services and will work closely with the Director and the RECBC's four staff lawyers, all of whom are experienced regulatory lawyers with a variety of backgrounds. The RECBC is the regulatory and licensing body for the real estate profession in British Columbia. It also administers a compensation fund process. Its activities are governed by the Real Estate Services Act and Regulation, Rules and Bylaws, all of which can be found on our website www.recbc.ca under “Consumer Info”. Our offices are located in downtown Vancouver and are easily accessible by public transit. The student will provide assistance in the following areas: Researching and updating case law in relation to various issues related to real estate and to the practice of the real estate profession; Researching the practice and regulation of the real estate industry and other professions in BC and elsewhere; Supporting RECBC staff lawyers preparing matters for disciplinary, compensation and qualification hearings; Such other duties as required The position requires strong research, analytical and reporting skills (oral and written) and is suited to a person with an interest in administrative law and professional regulation. Though not required, preference may be given to a student who has completed a course in Administrative Law and/or advanced course(s) in Property or Real Estate. Interviews will be conducted in mid-March, either in-person or by telephone or Skype. The position will commence in early-May and is for 12 weeks full-time. Compensation will be the equivalent of $20 per hour (plus 4% on account of vacation pay) based on a 35 hour work week. We thank all students for their applications.
