Boys & Girls Clubs of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County (BGCAA)
BGCAA is a non-profit organization consisting of six clubs (four in Annapolis, and one each in Pasadena and
Meade Village). The Club is a safe place for youth come to come after school to receive tutoring, computer
education, sports training, homework help, and mentoring. Every day, BGCAA strives to improve each Club
member's life by instilling self-esteem, courage, and positive values. The Club has been serving Annapolis and
Anne Arundel County youth since 1988, reaching more than 2,800 youth from age 5 to 18 every year.
Volunteers are needed as tutors, mentors, assistants in computer labs, arts & crafts, sports coaching, and as

6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., Thurs., Apr. 23, 2015, 26th Annual Ed Casey Youth of the Year Awards
Dinner: Sponsors and attendees are being sought for this gala event being held at the Annapolis Sheraton Hotel.
There will be cocktails, dinner, silent auction and awards ceremony honoring Youth of the Year. Guests are
encouraged to bring a bottle of wine to donate to the silent auction “Wine Extravaganza.” For more information

Historic London Town and Gardens
This Edgewater historic site seeks persons interested in history and/or horticulture to become docents, historic
interpreters and gardeners at this 17th-18th century tobacco port. Volunteers give site tours, house tours or
demonstrate colonial crafts and daily life. They may work in historic or ornamental gardens. For more

 10:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m., Sat., Mar. 21 & 12:00–4:30 p.m, Sun., Mar. 22, 2015, Maryland Day: Visitors
can try their hand at activities that were essential to daily life 300 years ago, such as cooking over an open fire,
chopping wood, and making rope, and chat about the past with costumed interpreters. Kids can wear colonialstyle clothing, and everyone can explore the beauty of early spring during garden tours each day at 1:00 p.m.
 6:00-9:00 p.m., Fri., Apr. 24, 2015, Privateer Party 2015: Guests are invited to the Historic London
Town and Gardens annual benefit, “Privateer Party 2015” which features fine food and refreshments from the
region’s top caterers, music and dancing, and live and silent auctions. For more information about this event

 9:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Jun. 29-Jul. 3 & Jul. 20-24, 2015, Colonial Adventures Summer Camps: Colonial
Adventures offers children who have completed 1st-6th grades the opportunity to spend part of their summer
experiencing colonial life in a hands-on, experience-based environment. At Colonial Adventures, campers live
the lives of children 300 years ago by wearing period clothing, cooking over a fire, making colonial crafts to
take home, playing lots of colonial games, and an optional overnight in our historic William Brown House for

Happy Helpers for the Homeless, Saturdays and Sundays
This nonprofit organization provides food, toiletries, and clothing to the hungry and homeless. Volunteers, as
young as 6, are needed Saturdays (11:30am-2:30pm) and Sundays (1:00-4:00pm) to assist in distributing items
and bag lunches in downtown Baltimore and Glen Burnie. Ongoing donations needed: men’s socks, toiletry
items, men’s clothing, blankets, shoes in very good condition, sturdy napkins/paper towels, mustard, juice
boxes, fold-over sandwich bags, lunch meat and fresh fruit. Volunteers can meet in Glen Burnie to caravan up to

information about volunteering on all projects and events. Additional events for which many volunteers are

 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Sat., Mar. 14, 2015, Easter Distribution: This includes a grocery giveaway, an
Easter Egg hunt, craft making, and distribution of Easter baskets for Guatemalan families in Marydel. This is a
favorite of our volunteers!
 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., Sat., Mar. 28, 2015 22nd Annual Birthday Party: Lunch, ice cream cake,
entertainment, and presents abound at the eagerly anticipated Birthday Party held at the Bay Area Community
Church, 884 Chesterfield Rd., Annapolis, MD 21401.
 4:30-7:30 p.m., Sat., Mar. 28, 2015, 22nd Anniversary & Awards: Prestigious awards will be presented to
our EXTRAORDINARY volunteers at the Anniversary Celebration held at the Bay Area Community Church,
884 Chesterfield Rd., Annapolis, MD 21401.
 1:00-4:00 p.m., Sun., Apr. 5, 2015, Baltimore Easter Distribution: We would love to have many families
and individuals serve on this holy, special day.
 8:30 a.m.-12 Noon, Sun., Apr. 19, 2015, Multiple Sclerosis Walk: Team Happy Helpers participate in
honor of several people each year at the Navy-Marine Corps Stadium in Annapolis.
 4:45–7:30 p.m., Mon., Apr. 20, 2015, Global Youth Service Day: We take the children we serve (and
their parents) out for dinner, games and all activities that Chuck E. Cheese offers at their location at 6637
Ritchie Hwy., Glen Burnie. This is the 21st year that we are holding the event, and is our volunteers’ favorite.
Each youth volunteer will serve as a “buddy” to one or two children.
Homeless Resource Day, March 28, 2015
A large number of volunteers are being sought for Anne Arundel County’s 8th Annual Homeless Resource Day,
Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Annapolis High School 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This is a “one-day, one stop”
opportunity for individuals and families experiencing homelessness to access benefits, medical care, substance
abuse resources and mental health counseling as well as a variety of social services which can ultimately lead to
housing and self-sufficiency. Also needed are donations of cash and NEW items: socks, underwear, backpacks,
personal hygiene items (toothpaste, toothbrush, etc.), disposable wipes, and hand sanitizers (all in trial or travel
sizes). Last year there were more than 600 homeless present. See www.aacounty.org/homelessresource for

 4:00 p.m. – 8 p.m., Fri., Mar. 27, 2015, Setup: Volunteers 15 years of age and older are needed to help
set-up tables, chairs, and signs and sort and stuff bags with donated canned food and toiletry items to be given to
the homeless.
 7:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., Sat., Mar. 28, 2015 (4 hour shifts), Guides and other Helpers: Volunteers 18
years of age or older are needed until event close at 4:00 p.m.; additional volunteers 15 years of age or older are
needed for breakdown after 4:00 p.m.
Project Clean Stream (PCS) 2015, April 11, 2015
Help make this year our largest PCS watershed-wide clean up to date! In 2014, PCS brought together over 7,500
volunteers to clean over 260 sites and remove 425,000 lbs of trash from the Chesapeake watershed. With your
help, we hope to expand to over 300 sites in all 6 watershed States and the District of Columbia this year.

of the Bay and its watershed by building strong connections between people and their local streams and rivers.
