Recommendations in Business Author Spotfire Recommendations is a new, easier and faster way of creating visualizations, learning about your data and letting you get to insights quicker—regardless of whether you are an experienced analyst or a newcomer to visual analytics. With Spotfire Recommendations you can look at your data from different angles, discover new insights, and get a visual overview of your data. New Data Panel in Business Author Spotfire 7.0 allows you to get a better overview of the loaded data in the new data panel. Here, all columns in the data are visible. By default, the columns are divided into categories such as number, category, or time, which makes it easier to find what you are looking for. The data panel is the basis for interacting with your columns; you can grab a column and drop it on the visualization, rename a column, delete a column or filter the data based on the column values. New Visual Themes You can now view your analysis or dashboard using: ● a new design of the classical Spotfire light theme ● a brand new dark theme ● a custom theme, if a custom theme has been defined by the author of your analysis/dashboard You change themes using the Visual theme button in the toolbar. Overview of Changed Filters An overview of changed filters is provided in the filters panel and in the new data panel. Hierarchy Slider for TimeSpan Columns Just like for DateTime columns, columns of type TimeSpan now automatically get a Hierarchy slider. Improved Default Titles for Visualizations With the new default title (${AutoTitle}) used when creating a new visualization, the title changes dynamically to reflect the current configuration of the visualization. Easy Edit of Visualization Title Double-clicking in a visualization title bar will now allow you to edit the visualization title. Grouping of Categories The new easy-to-use grouping feature allows you to combine two or more marked categories displayed in the visualization into one. This is very useful in several situations: ● When you want to compare the total of more than one category against other categories. For example, when you want to compare the sales in (Boston + New York) against sales in Los Angeles. ● When you spot spelling errors or alternative spellings that cause data to be split into more categories than needed. ● When you want to compare, for instance, the top 10 categories against the rest. Quick Configuration of Visualizations in Business Author It is now easier and faster to configure most visualization properties in Business Author. You can directly select configuration options after clicking (left-clicking) on the axis of visualization. A set of configuration options are shown in a pop-up menu. The available options vary between different TIBCO Spotfire® Web Player – Release Notes 6 visualization types and which axis you click on. On touch devices, tapping on an axis invokes the pop-up menu. Configure Map Charts in Business Author It is now possible to create map charts in Business Author. You can select to create map charts with either one marker layer or one feature (shape) layer. If the data contains longitude and latitude, these values are used to place markers or shapes. If the data has no longitude or latitude, Spotfire places markers or shapes based on geocoding (translating the name of known states, cities, etc., into geographical positions). Improved Context Menu in Business Author The context menu that is available through right-click in the visualizations has been extended with two new entries: ● Duplicate visualization ● Properties (reaches the visualization properties pop-over) Drag-and-Drop Hierarchy Level from the Data Panel to a Visualization It is now possible drag a sub-level in a dimension hierarchy to the X-axis, in order to only show the sub-hierarchy of interest in the visualization. The data panel is available in Business Author. Drag-and-Drop in Business Author In Spotfire 7.0 the web authoring client Business Author introduces the capability to configure visualizations through drag-and-drop. For example, you can easily add a column to the color axis by dragging it from the data panel to the color drop target in the center of the visualization, or to the color axis in the legend. Drag-and-Drop Data into Business Author It is now possible to load data into Business Author by dragging and dropping the data, either in the library browser (to create a new analysis) or in the Business Author analytical client (to add data to an existing analysis) Improved Excel Data Loading in Business Author When loading data from an Excel file, Business Author now allows you to select which worksheet to open and gives you a preview of the data in the worksheet. Mark From Legend Spotfire 7.0 introduces the ability to mark elements in the visualization by clicking on categories in the legend. This is useful especially in visualizations with many graphical elements and lets you compare the marked category with the other categories. Mark from legend works for the color and shape axis for categorical and binned columns. Map Chart Geocoding Improvements Several improvements have been made to the Map Chart geocoding, including: ● Improved center point calculation. For instance, the marker for Florida is now better placed. ● Most common geocoding tables are now sorted by population. This gives a better result when the geocoding is ambiguous, like, when geocoding on a city column only and several cities with the same name exist. Cache and Preload SBDF Files on the Web Player Server In order to quickly create and share map chart visualizations that uses geocoding tables, and to quickly open SBDF files from the library, it is now possible to cache and preload the SBDF files stored in the library. Scheduled Updates Cache TIBCO Spotfire® Web Player – Release Notes 7 It is now possible to cache data from scheduled analyses on disk to be able to reload the analyses faster after restarting the Web Player. Performance for both products will be affected negatively, and there are complications concerning port numbers. ● The installation program creates a virtual directory called SpotfireWeb under the Default Web Site in IIS. If there is more than one web site on the server, it is important to select the port for the correct web site during installation, as described in the TIBCO Spotfire® Web Player Installation and Configuration Manual. ● It is particularly important to install TIBCO Spotfire® Web Player and TIBCO Spotfire® Server on separate machines when using Kerberos authentication. ● Additional information and advice on troubleshooting are available in the installation manual.
