Go. See. Do. Spotlight on Northwood. The Spelling Bee will be held on Wednesday, February 25th at 7:00pm in the NHS Theater. The night will be filled with intense spelling and entertaining and fun challenges. Admission is free for spectators and $1 for participants, payable at the door. We hope to see you there! SAT Word of the Week Acute (adj) keen or quick of mind, shrewd She was often frustrated in Calculus class because her acute classmate would always finish the problem quickly while she had barely begun the problem. From the Front Office and Student Activities Center Love Shouldn’t Hurt Week Northwood is partnering with Human Options for the first ever Love Shouldn’t Hurt Week. The goal of the week is to raise awareness about teen dating violence and to promote positive relationships and friendships. Remember to wear purple on Wednesday in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and on Thursday, there will be a guest speaker from Human Options in the Media Center at 3:45 who will be speaking about domestic violence. Sadie Hawkins Dance Sadie Hawkins tickets are now on sale in the SAC. Tickets are $20 with ASB card and $30 with ID only. This year’s theme is Flash Back Friday. You can pick up a dance contract in the file bin outside the SAC. A list of students who have already purchased a ticket as part of the registration dance package will be listed on the door of the SAC. For the Good of the Pack Each month we have a drawing to recognize students that have demonstrated our Core Values of Integrity, Mutual Respect and Compassion at Northwood High School. This drawing contains post cards that teachers have completed. This month’s drawing winner is: Katherine Monjay recognized by Ms. DeLille Rylee Charrette recognized by Mrs. Gutierrez NHS Talent Show! Mark your calendars for the annual NHS talent show. Come out to the theater on March 5th at 7pm and watch NHS students show off their talent and skills to the rest of the school. Club Presidents Meeting There is a mandatory Club Presidents Meeting on Thursday, March 5th during Tutorial in the NHS Theater. The meeting is mandatory for all Club Presidents and Treasurers. AP Exam Registration Attention all current AP Students! Registration for AP exams will begin on Monday, Feb. 9 and will conclude on Friday, Feb. 27. The fee for each exam is $100.00. Exams may be ordered in one of the following ways: 1. CASH or CHECK to the SAC during morning and afternoon snack, lunch and tutorial 2. Online with a credit card through the Webstore, available on the Northwood website – www.northwoodhigh.org. (a service fee will apply) The required forms are available for pick-up in the SAC or you may print them off of the NHS website. For the full exam schedule, please see the NHS website. If you have any questions, or have testing conflicts, please contact Ms. Feest (room 1033 or 927 – [email protected]) or Mrs. Hamilton (Admin building – [email protected] NHS tutors needed! If YOU are interested in becoming a NHS tutor, there are opportunities available for second semester. We are looking for tutors to work in our on campus Tutor Center and in classrooms with the Peer Tutors class. If you are an honors student with a 3.5+ GPA and want to become a part of our tutoring program, contact Mrs. Atkins at [email protected] for more information or an application. Parking Lot Rules Absolutely no access to cars in the parking lot during morning break and tutorial- please plan accordingly. Violators will be assigned detention. This is a reminder that students must park in marked student stalls. Students may not park on any curb unless given permission by the administration. Cars on the curb can be cited or towed. SAC Hours Reminder: The SAC is only open during break, tutorial, and lunch for purchases and approvals. On Wednesday morning late starts the SAC is open for new ID cards and pictures only. Athletic Program News VAPA News Spring Play Auditions Auditions for the Spring Play: Robin Hood and the Heroes of Sherwood Forest will be held Tuesday, February 24 from 4:30 – 7:30 in the drama room. Audition packets are available in the drama room. Club News 1st Annual Lit Night Get ready for Northwood's 1st Annual LIT NIGHT! On February 27th, come join us in the NHS Theater for a night of poetry, monologues, short stories, and more - all for free! To sign up, please email [email protected] or sign up in room 1210. NHS Alzheimer’s Awareness Club Presents: “A Night to Remember” You are cordially invited to Northwood High School’s “A Night to Remember” presented by the Alzheimer’s Awareness Club on March 27th, 2015. Sponsored by Hoag Neurosciences Institute, we will be screening the award-winning, Sundance film documentary Alive Inside. This film will take place inside the Northwood High School theatre from 7-10 p.m. on Friday, March 27th, 2015. Tickets will be sold at the door for $20.00 and proceeds will go to Hoag’s Orange County Vital Brain Aging Program and to Alzheimer’s Association. Tyler Durman has been featured at Universal Studios in Hollywood and on Network TV for his unique wisdom about raising teenagers today. Help and hope for parents of teenagers in 75 minutes! Grad Night tickets are On Sale Purchase by February 27 before the next price increase. Grad Night is a special all-night party at a secret location for Seniors only, on the night of Graduation and into the next morning (10:00 p.m. on June 17 until 6:00 a.m. on June 18). The ticket price includes transportation, food, entertainment, and more! The event is completely safe and supervised by adults and organized by PTSA. Grad Night is the best night of the year for the Seniors, and most all of the Senior Class attends! After the Graduation ceremony, there is still plenty of time to celebrate with family and friends before Grad Night begins. Buy your ticket today ... We don't want any of the Seniors to miss out!
