This presentation will explore why and how incorporating digital media (specifically apps and ebooks) into our programs is now an essential part of serving young children and their families. It will include tips and tricks for translating traditional storytelling techniques into the digital realm. She will offer a list of helpful apps for caregivers, teachers and parents. Children’s Author – Suzanne Bloom – will present on strengthening language and literacy (30 million word gap) through reading picture books. She will talk about her creative process, demonstrate effective oral reading styles and underscore the importance of diversity and inclusiveness in books for children. She will also be available for book signing & She might even walk us through drawing one of the characters in her stories. Literacy Expert – Brigid Hubberman - the founder of the nationally recognized Family Reading Partnership will talk on the topic of early literacy and is tremendously inspiring and motivational. She will speak about the projects in Tompkins County and their new initiative ““Every Baby! Every Day! Talk. Sing. Read. Play.” ” which is engaging community support to bridge the 30 million word gap. She will give us the motivation that we need to mobilize literacy in our community! She has a strong interest in providing patrons of all ages access to technology and promoting early literacy through the use of new media. Anne is a training cohort for the Ready to Read at New York Libraries early literacy initiative and serves on the advisory board for LittleeLit.com, an online resource for librarians interested in early literacy in the digital age.
