Course Condition
Until recently we have
been experiencing some
good conditions weather
wise and this has led to
the course providing
reasonable conditions in
which to play.
The ground is soft and I would ask members to consider using mats or if you are
near the side of the fairway to take your shot as close to the rough as possible.
This helps to enhance the course moving forward and helps the staff greatly
Winter Maintenance
You will have seen the works that are ongoing on the 14th and 15th fairways relating
to the drainage. This will hopefully provide improved playing conditions and walking
conditions on the course.
As we move forward a number of jobs are still to be done, turfing on top of the
bunkers at the second and eight and if time and money allows the third.
Also bunker maintenance will be undertaken with the club commited to improving the
quality of these before the start of the season.
The staff will also undertake to cut the leylandii hedge at the back of the putting
green and 12th tee as well as the car park side. This is a big undertaking and we will
be discussing at our next greens meeting on the 6th how this will be tackled.
Following this the greens staff will be concentrating their efforts on getting the course
into condition for the start of the new season, with an eye on the Lothians Qualifying
in early May.
As usual we welcome any ideas from members for consideration and if you want to
contribute these, please email the secretary who will pass these on to us.
All ideas will be considered and graded according to short, medium and long term
aspirations and all related to budget being made available.
Neil Shillinglaw Memorial Bridge
As this newsletter filters through to you work will have started on the new bridge to
mark Neil's memorial. The bridge is being located at the 10th and will provide an
excellent feature on this part of the course. The bridge will be for walking members

for buggy use and green machine access.
Well that's it from me.
This will be my last contribution to the FTGS, as some of you may know I have
intimated to Committee that I will not be seeking nomination at the forthcoming AGM.
The course has come on a good deal over the last four years since I've been on the
greens committee and the programme that was set to the staff has been taken
forward by Ian and the team with great enthusiasm. I'd like to thank the greens team
for all their efforts and contributions over this time, we're slowly putting Glencorse GC
back on the map as a course worth playing and its their efforts that are making the
difference, long may this continue.
I would also like to thank Derek Thomson for his excellent support and contribution
during my time as convenor and wish him well in whatever committee role he
undertakes next year.
My time on Committee has been eye-opening, challenging, frustrating a lot of the
time, but I have taken great enjoyment seeing the course develop and I hope my
contribution has in some small way been helpful as the club moves forward and I
wish the new convenor every success.
