BELOVED, BE LOVING
The Importance of Literacy
“Motivating children to read is an important factor in student
achievement and creating lifelong successful readers. Research has shown
that children who are motivated and spend more time reading do better in
school.” (www.nea.org)
For the upcoming month of March, Word of Life is celebrating reading.
We will kick-off this celebration by recognizing Read Across America Day
on March 2nd. This special day will include storytelling, faith family time,
and reading buddies. During the rest of the month, homerooms teachers
will be doing special book cover design projects, cross-curricular activities,
and much more. In addition to these fun activities, the students will log all
of the reading they do throughout the month. Fun incentives and rewards
will be offered as motivators.
The theme of our month is inspired by a well-known Dr. Seuss book titled,
Oh, The Places You’ll Go. It is the hope of our faculty that many new
adventures will be revealed to our students through all of the reading they
will be doing. According to Dr. Seuss, “The more that you read, the more
things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you go.”
God’s Peace,
