Metro-East Lutheran High School HIGHLIGHTS March 6, 2015 CHRIST LIVING GALATIANS 2:20 Please pray… Giving thanks for the many volunteers putting together an amazing Home and Garden Show. • For our students as we enter the fourth quarter that they might finish out the school year very strong academically. • Important Upcoming Dates March 13 No School - Professional Development March 14 & 15 Metro-East Home and Garden Show Announcements Metro-East Lutheran High is excited to announce the 2015 inductees to the Hall of Honor: ERIK HESS, Class of 1983, now serves as a Senior Vice President, Consumer Brand Strategy for the McDonald's Corporation. JOEL FRIEND, Class of 1993, distinguished himself as an accomplished student and participant in the Fine Arts at MELHS. He continues that leadership in his work with the Lyric Opera of Chicago along with running his own theater company, Without A Net Entertainment. JEREMY BECKER, Class of 1994, has served the Lutheran Church both locally and nationally as a Director of Christian Education for nearly twenty years including helping plan the National Youth Gatherings. DR. ALISON (REDDEN) WESSELS, Class of 2001, is a former standout athlete and valedictorian at Lutheran High. She is an Assistant Professor and Laboratory Coordinator at Washington University in St. Louis. We invite all Lutheran High Supporters to attend the Knights of the Round Table Banquet and Hall of Honor Induction on March 22 at 5:30 p.m. RSVP to the school office. There is no charge for the event. Clean out your closets and bring your old shoes! Collected shoes are sold and the money raised is used to supply safe drinking water around the world. In collaboration with the Home and Garden Show, we will be collecting shoes until March 27. Learn more about this project at www.shoemanwater.org. The Creative Writing and Book Club's next meeting is Friday, March 27 at Sacred Grounds after school. The "book" for the month of March is not a book, but a podcast titled Welcome to Night Vale. There are about fifty episodes of about thirty minutes each. Please listen to as many as you are able, and we hope you enjoy them. Today is the end of the third quarter. Please watch for report cards next week. They will be mailed and emailed. Alumni and Seminary student Jacob Schultz led chapel for our students on March 2. Sports/Activities Schedules From the Academic Advisor Spring weather and sports don’t always work together! Please watch for updates from the coaches. The following colleges will be visiting MELHS. Please sign up with Mr. McLaughlin at least a day in advance and check with your teacher before attending the visit. Roxana Scholastic Bowl- 3/9 Regional Senior Scholarship Tracker is up to $1,350,400 awarded to the Class of 2015. Please let Mr. McLaughlin know about any scholarships you are receiving from each school you have applied to! There will be a college fair at Lewis & Clark Community College next week on Tuesday, March 10. Mr. McLaughlin has more information. Softball- 3/19 Home v. Last meeting is March 12 at 6:30 p.m. Please consider helping out during the event- see email from PAFs for the details. Continue to spread the word! We would love to see many people come to the show. Congratulations to the Boys Basketball team- Regional Champions! Tryouts for the Dancer Knights for 2015-16 will take place March 23, 24, and 26 from 5:00-7:00pm. Sign up in the office. For more information see Mrs. Keily-Vann or Mrs. Wudtke. Summer Camps are being planned!
