Doris Callan, Director March is Women’s History month. Local Women in History. Do you know who they are? Joanne Keillor, Town of Crawford Historian, will talk about some notable and amazing women of history right from our very own community. Come on Friday, March 27th at 3 PM to the Library.. Safety Driving classes are again being scheduled. The first one for this year is set for March 11th from 9 to 4. The next one is April 8th. The cost is $20 for AARP members and $25 for non -members. You must reserve a seat. Call 744-3375. Please make checks payable to AARP. AARP Tax Counseling is available on Fridays from 9:15 to 12 noon. Sign up for an appointment, by calling 744-4265. You are requested to bring last year’s return, W-2’s, all 1099’s, unemployment statements, social security statement, receipts if itemizing, and proof of health insurance,(1095A) or SS Medicare. All services are free. We do have tax forms and booklets for the selfies. St. Patrick’s Day Tea. March 17th, 1- 4 PM.”Caed Mile Failte”(A Hundred Thousand Welcomes)- Join us in our “ Irish Tea Room” in the community center to sample some Irish tea, refreshments and some traditional Irish entertainment provided by Terry Chiesa (poetry and storytelling) Aranka , our town singer and others. Pinochle, Scrabble and Bridge games are still in full swing. Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays at 10 are the play times. New comers are always welcome. There is interest piling up to start a Mahjong Club. Are you interested? Let us know. We will get the tiles in piles. The Ukulele Class for the Orange County Strummers will meet on Tuesday, March 24th at 6:30 in the community room. Red Cross Emergency Preparedness Program at 6:30 PM on March 26th. What to do when a disaster to the training to Prepare, Respond, and Recover. strikes! Come Chess Club is in the making again. Interested players should contact the library. (744-4265) Open Mic is on Friday, March 6th at 3:30 PM. Library Artists exhibit this month features two local artists. Mary Williams has been painting for 20+ years and her favorite subject is southern landscapes and nature. Ellen Quimby has been painting for 15+ years and enjoys hiking which has influenced her favorite scenes to paint which are sunsets. A reception at the library will be announced. Stop by and enjoy their works on display in the Main Library. CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS TODDLER TIME (Ages 18 - 36 months) Mondays 10:00 - 10:45 am. PRESCHOOL STORYTIME (Ages 3 – 5) Fridays 10:00 - 11:00 am –Beginning March 13th. Free after school one-on-one help is available with homework, reading or math. for K-5 students. Please call to set up a schedule. CHAPTER BOOK CLUB FOR GRADES 1-3 meets on Tuesdays at 3:30. We are using mysteries by “Nate, The Great,” “Magic School Bus,” “Magic Tree House,” and “Junie B. Jones,” to name a few. Lego Building- for Grades 1-5 with Miss Crissy on Thursdays at 4 PM. Legos promotes creativity, develops fine motor skills and encourages teamwork and cooperation. Read to Bodie, our therapy dog . The day is Thursday, March 19th starting at 4 PM. Sign up as this is a one on one experience. LEARN TO KNIT OR CROCHET. - New group has formed for beginners and experienced. Beginners of all ages, including adults, are welcomed to come and see if there is real interest to learn. Materials are available for you to begin. The group meets on Fridays, from 3:30- 5 pm. Our teen tech tutors are giving individual computer help by appointment. We sport a quiet reading area, and free use of WIFI, & DVD's. We post area news on bulletin boards, and send out a monthly newsletter to let you in on all what is going on at your library. Like us on Facebook, too. A free library card is required to borrow materials. Used Book Sales are every day in the Community Center. Have you downloaded any E-Books yet from the library site? Now there are 42 periodicals available for your use. Once downloaded it is yours for as long as you want,\. This is all free of charge when you have your free library card. Go to the library website download center. We have a high school senior who would like to volunteer her time teaching beginner Spanish, computer, Global History to adults and students for free. Please call the library at 744-4265 for more information and set up a schedule.. We have a group that would like to have conversations in Spanish. This is a great way to become fluent and comfortable. Several Spanish speaking adults have offered to come out and assist. SAVE THE DATE It’s time to think Spring! The library’s Annual Spring Fling Dinner Dance is set for Friday, May 15th at the Pine Bush Fire House with music by the Mid-Life Crisis Band. Mark your calendar! More to come.
