VXM™ Stepper Motor Controller - Quick Start
Velmex VXM Stepping Motor
Controller

Use this Quick Start Guide for all models and
configurations of the VXM Stepper Motor Controller
except the VXM-1J Simple Jog and Auto-Reverse. (See
the VXM-1J User Manual. Steps 1, 2, 4 and 7 below also
can be followed for the initial set-up of the VXM-1J.)
Connect all the cables before connecting the power.
Step1.
Step 6.
Connect the AC Power Cord to
the DC Power Supply.
If controlling 3 or 4 axis,
connect the two VXMs together
via the Bus Cable.
Note: Tab down and
lock into connector
Step 2.
Step 7.
Connect the DC Power Supply
to the port on the VXM back.
Plug in the AC Power Cord.
Step 8.
Step 3.
Axis 1
Connect the VXM Motor Cable to
the Motor. If using 2 axis, connect
the motor cable 1 to the motor
on the first stage. Connect the
motor cable 2 to the motor on the
second stage.
Turn on the VXM.
Step 9.
Install and run COSMOS™
Software to configure VXM.
Step 4.
Connect the VXM Limit Switch
Cable to the Limit Switches for the
Motor. If using 2 axis, connect the
limit switch cable for motor 1 to
the limit switch cable on the first
stage. Connect the limit switch
cable for motor 2 to the limit
switch cable on the second stage.
From COSMOS on the terminal you can type and send commands directly to the
VXM. These commands are the most common:

Connect the Computer to the
VXM with the Serial Cable.
ImMx Set steps to incremental Index motor CW (positive), m= motor# (1,2,3,4),
x=1 to 16,777,215
SmMx Set Speed of motor (70% power), m= motor# (1,2,3,4), x=1 to
6000 steps/sec. Default=2000

Clear all commands from currently selected program
F
Enable On-Line mode with echo “off”
Q
Quit On-Line mode (return to Local/Jog mode)
R
Run currently selected program
rsm
Run save memory (saves setup/ program values to nonvolatile memory)
Typical command sequence to first time run motor 1 one revolution: F C I1M400, R
Clear the previous VXM index and move the motor back 2 revolutions: C I1M-800, R
To get the VXM back to Jog mode: Q
