DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE – RESPONDING TO THE
CRY OF THE RURAL POOR WITH THE BISHOPS OF
BRAZIL - In all places and circumstances, Christians, with
the help of their pastors, are called to hear the cry of the
poor. This has been eloquently stated by the bishops of
Brazil: “We wish to take up daily the joys and hopes, the
difficulties and sorrows of the Brazilian people, especially of
those living in the barrios and the countryside – landless,
homeless, lacking food and health care – to the detriment of
their rights. Seeing their poverty, hearing their cries and
knowing their sufferings, we are scandalized because we
know that there is enough food for everyone and that hunger
is the result of a poor distribution of goods and income.” –
Pope Francis, The Joy of the Gospel, 191. Development
and Peace has been working with the Brazilian bishops for
many years to respond to the cry of the poor. Your
generosity helps fund our partnership with their Pastoral
Land Commission, which works to support the rural poor
through agricultural development and land reform. You can
learn more about our work by picking up Share Lent
materials at the back of the Church or by visiting devp.org.
The Share Lent collection for Development and Peace is on
the Fifth Sunday of Lent, March 22nd.

THINKING ABOUT SEPARATION OR DIVORCE? – Is
your marriage or that of a relative or friend heading for
divorce? Do you know how to save that marriage? Or do
you feel helpless? Retrouvaille (pronounced retro-vi with a
long i) is designed to help troubled marriages regain their
health. It helps spouses re-awaken the love, trust and
commitment that originally brought them together. The
program is highly successful in saving hurting marriages,
even bringing reconciliation to couples that have already
separated or divorced. For confidential information about,
or to register for the program beginning with a weekend on
March 13-15, 2015, in Niagara Falls please call 905-664-

Come to COLF’S SEMINAR ON LIFE AND FAMILY on
March 19-20, 2015, in Gatineau (just across the river from
Ottawa). As the issue of abortion keeps coming up on the
Canadian political scene over the years, we have chosen as
our theme: “When Life Takes Us by Surprise…” An
impressive roster of Canadian, American and European
speakers will be addressing different facets of this issue.
Needless to say we were also inspired by Pope Francis’
words: “It is not 'progressive' to try to resolve problems by
eliminating a human life. On the other hand, it is also true
that we have done little to adequately accompany women in
very difficult situations, where abortion appears as a quick
solution to their profound anguish” (Evangelii gaudium, 214).
Check out http://colf.ca/index.php/en/events/item/219-2015seminar-of-life-and-family for more information on the
program and to register. The presentations will be made in
both official languages by means of simultaneous
translation. If you have any questions, please contact (613)
241-9461, extension 161, or email ([email protected]).
