We advertised for the position a fortnight ago and held interviews in the last few days. I am pleased to announce the successful applicant Glenda Kerrisk. She is familiar to us all, having worked in R14 a bit this year, which is great. Mrs Kerrisk will begin working alongside Miss Collie in R15 for a couple of days before beginning with her own class in R16. The parents of students joining this new class will be contacted soon. Wheels Day – Friday 20 March Friday 20th March will be a Wheels Day here at school. Example:are (figures not accurate) Students reminded of the following Wheels Day safety School donation $55.00 rules…. Walk your wheels to the designated areas before you start to ride. 7. Do not borrow someone else’s wheels. Students must adhere to these rules if they wish to ride. Parent-Teacher Interviews Education Tips for Parents Specific actions parents can take to enhance school success Encourage your child’s development and progress in school … Maintain a warm and supportive home. Show interest in their progress at school. Offer to assist with homework. Discuss the value of a good education and possible career options. Stay in touch with teachers and other school staff. Read through their homework and talk about what is being done. Provide a variety of reading materials in the home. Help your children to choose appropriate middle and secondary school courses. Remain aware of the importance of parental involvement at this school. Volunteer to participate in school activities. Promote school attendance and discourage absenteeism. Parent-Teacher Interviews will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, the 31st March and 1st April. School will close at lunchtime (12:40pm) on Tuesday to allow an early afternoon start (1:30pm). Interviews will continue through until 6:30pm. Parents/Caregivers are asked to collect students from school at 12:40pm as buses will not run early. They will run at the usual time of 3.00pm. Children who have an early afternoon interview with teachers may wait at school until their conference is finished, before leaving with their parents. On Wednesday afternoon, from 3:30 - 5:30pm additional interviews times will be made available to parents who can’t make the Tuesday times. Interviews can now be booked online. To do this, go to: www.schoolinterviews.co.nz, enter the event code VHRM6 and then follow the onscreen instructions. If you successfully complete the booking process you will receive an email confirming your booking. If you do not have internet access you can still book an interview by calling Kathy at the office (09 423 8042). She will do the online booking for you. Be in quick to book your preferred times. Pies are available for Friday lunches - $2.00 each. Flower Bulb Fundraiser: A reminder that all orders must be returned to the school office by Thursday 19th March. AFFCO Bobby Calf fundraiser: Attention dairy farmers. When you complete your Bobby Calf Registration/Status Declaration 2015 please add Wellsford School as your Nominated School. The school will then receive 40 cents for every bobby calf you supply. Please note: this is a donation from AFFCO and does not come out of your schedule payments. WELLSFORD LIBRARY Tuesdays 3.30 - 5.00pm – HOMEWORK CLUB: Come along and get some homework help or even to just read a book. Some food and drink available. Thursdays 3.30 – 5.00pm – BOARD GAMES: Come along and challenge your friends in good old board games. Fridays 3.30 – 5.00pm – IPADS AND GAMING: Come and have a go on our library ipads or play the PlayStation. The Term 4 highlights video is now online. You can access this via our school website. DENTAL THERAPISTS The Dental Mobile Unit (currently situated at Warkworth School) is open Monday to Friday from 8.00am to 4.30pm. Phone 09 422 2714 for all appointments and enquiries. ASB School Banking is available for Wellsford School Students. Deposit Envelopes are held at the office. Simply complete name, ASB account details, seal in money and drop envelope in the banking box at School office. If your child does not have an ASB account and you wish to open one, collect a form from the school office, complete and return. You will be advised by ASB bank when the account is open and your child will receive a School banking pack full of goodies. Help ASB get children back into the saving habit. What’s ahead?
