Base-pair to Bedside Genomics and Cancer Prevention March 25, 2015 Organized by Bioinformatics Centre (BIC) Institute of Cytology & Preventive Oncology (ICMR) Department of Health Research Ministry of Health & Family Welfare Government of India Noida, Uttar Pradesh -201301 EVENT SUMMARY Developments in high throughput technologies are revolutionizing medical research. With applications in both communicable and noncommunicable diseases, these technologies have potential for translating research to clinical practice. Although high throughput technologies have been used worldwide for medical research, these are not being used as widely in India. One of the biggest hurdles in use and analyses of high throughput technologies for medical research in India is limited training of clinicians in such technologies and minimal interaction between clinicians and translational researchers. ICPO aims to bridge the gap between clinicians and translational researchers by organizing an interactive brainstorming session with the objective of increasing interaction and stimulating collaborative projects. The theme of the symposium is ‘Genomics and Cancer Prevention” where leading practicing clinicians and researchers will be invited to interact and discuss the following themes: 1. Cancer genomics 2. Practical applications of genomic approaches in cancer 3. Translational genomics 4. Use of technologies in outreach cancer prevention and care 5. Lacunae in cancer awareness and prevention PROGRAM Time Contents Speaker 10:00 Welcome Prof. Ravi Mehrotra 10.15 Making clinical sense of missense Dr. Rajiv Sarin and intronic gene variants 11.00 Next Generation Cancer Genomics- Dr. Arindam Maitra Our experiences in the ICGC Project 11:45 Tea/coffee break 12.00 Personal genomes to precision Moderator: Dr. Vinod Scaria Rajaraman medicine 12.45 Discovering evidence for heritability Dr. Preetha Dr. Rajesh Dixit of cancer in Indian Population: Role of GWAS and future directions 13.30 Lunch break 14.30 Engineering reversal of drug 15.15 Dr. Shantanu Chowdhary Moderator: resistance in cancer cells - metastasis Dr. S.M. suppressor proteins as change agents Agarwal Panel Discussion 1 Panelist: Genes and proteins as platforms 1.
