Salary hike for
160 teachers

CBD-BELAPUR: NMMC’s general body on
Tuesday approved a proposal to revise the emoluments of 160 teachers
working on contract
basis.
These teachers have
been working in civic
schools for more than
three years and receiving a consolidated salary of Rs 7,000 per
month. One hundred
and twenty seven of
them worked in the primary section and 33 in
the secondary section.
Those working in the
primary section will
hereafter receive a
lump sum salary of Rs
12,000 per month and
those in the secondary
section will get Rs
13,000. These revisions
are expected to cast a
burden
of
Rs
2,14,83,000 per year on
the exchequer.

The contractor,
whose name the authorities refused to disclose, had put up a
shed on the pavement
in
Sector-9
Koperkhairane. Here he
used to run a factory
where he produced
manhole covers and
frames made of ce-
ment. The industry
needed a lot of water
and the contractor had
installed a water tank
where he collected rain
water during the wet
season. When the
rains stopped, he is believed to have surrepticiously broken into
the public water main
and taken a connection.

house. Once inside, he
started making indecent moves at the girl
and molested her. The
aggrieved girl told her
parents when they returned. Accordingly,
the parents went to

VASHI: At long last, the traffic
police have started taking action
against motorists who have been violating traffic rules.
The narrow lane that forms part
of CIDCO Office road in Sector-1/2,
Vashi has been a one-way drive right
from the beginning. For the first few
years, the rules were enforced too.
But, on account of the lethargy
shown by the traffic department, motorists have been taking the liberty
of driving through this lane from the
wrong end with impunity.
The lane witnesses chaos as it
houses two banks, CIDCO’s nodal
office, the rationing office, MSEDCL
office and a civic dispensary which
together attract a lot of traffic. Traffic cops rarely turn up to prevent
traffic violations.
Since Monday, some traffic cops
have been standing at the entry point
and catching motorists coming from
the wrong end and collecting fines
from them. “They are doing it only
to complete their target for the year,”
said people in the know. Incidentally, this is not the first time such action has been taken. They conduct
the campaign for a couple of days and
then disappear. “And it is back to the
square one,” say the residents, who
have been experiencing the inconvenience for decades.

Debate over whether developmental work
at Dronagiri should stop or continue

hill in Dronagiri node
in Uran holds mythological significance.
Hence many residents
in and around this place
have a kind of religious
attachment towards
this hill. But the developmental works that is
being carried out here
has started
worrying
these people
who are appealing to the
authorities to
leave alone
the hill which
they consider
as a holy
place.
A resident
of this place
said, “We consider this hill as a holy
place. It has historical
and mythological value.
The construction works
that are being done here
should at once stop or
we will be forced to
stage an agitation. We
understand that the
authorities are trying
to make this place
worth living for us but
there are some elements who are out to
destroy this place without caring about the
fact that many residents over here consider it as a holy place.”
When asked as to
why exactly that place
was considered as holy,
he replied that the hill
was dropped there by
Hindu God Lord Hanuman owing to which
many Hindus consider
this region as a place of
worship. He added, “It
is believed that for
many centuries the hill
was dropped by Lord
Hanuman. Things like
digging and excavations can endanger this
place and make it prone
to earthquakes and other dangers.”
These residents
have taken the help of
environmental activists
and experts to fight for
their cause. These environmentalists have
also appealed to the authorities to stop development works in Dronagiri at once.
A real estate agent
seemed to be happy
about the construction
works taking place in
this region. He said,
“This place is fit for con-
struction of residences
which will have huge
demand considering the
location of the place and
many scopes it provides. The real estate
people will manage to do
great business here
once the place is developed.”
An environment expert said, “This region
is located in
coastal area
and to carry
out development work
over here is
dangerous
from ecological and environmental angle. The authorities are
taking a big
risk and putting the lives of residents over here in danger. The authorities
should consult the environmentalists before
carrying out further developmental works
here. Another way to
prevent the construction work from continuing is appealing to the
High Court by the residents.”
The municipal authorities are facing a
tough time in deciding
whether Dronagiri
should be left alone or
whether development
works should continue
taking place here.

Politics without
principles is mockery
The ruling party will go to any extent to remain in power and the opposition party to
snatch the power from the ruling party. We the
public vote them to keep the sovereignity of
the Country and the state in particular by upholding moral values but those who should be
respecting law are found to be totally abandoning the same. This is not Democracy, but real
madness in the name of democracy and fundamental rights. What happened in Kerala Assembly was akin to taking law into their own
hands.
Why do we vote in elections? We vote because it is our democratic right. But our politicians need us just on the polling day; Next five
years the MLAs/MPs/Ministers will be working on how to recover his poll expenses and
how to covertly make money for his family/
caste; the common people are being fooled and
taken into the cage of poverty throughout their
life with seemingly alluring baits of offers.
There is a massive degradation in our political
system.
Any solution, particularly in a democratic
country like India, should be arrived at by discussions and peaceful talks! But unfortunately, views are expressed by damaging national
property. Why don’t our politicians follow the
principle of Satyagraha for protests?
There was a time when our political leaders, ministers used to resign on moral ground.
Now there is no morality in politics. So they
are not resigning on moral ground. Even if they
get convicted they will seek possibilities to continue in power. Now politics is not based on
morality but it is based on power.
However, one must also acknowledge that
India’s political culture doesn’t encourage politicians to resign from office and undergo the
legal process to prove their innocence. Have
we ever seen any high profile politician doing
this? Resignation itself is seen as proof of guilt.
One reason for this reluctance to resign is that
the law is too slow in its functioning. It will
take years if not decades before a criminal case
is concluded.
Violence and indecorous behaviour in the
Parliament and State Assemblies do not constitute news anymore. We will be surprised if
our elected representatives behave in an orderly and responsible manner, befitting their
new found status. This is the price we are paying for blindly electing candidates by ignoring
their dubious background. Under the garb of
democracy, crimes are committed and the criminals enjoy immunity from prosecution owing
to their political clout. This has rendered the
Legislature, one of the three pillars of democracy, (Legislature, Executive and Judiciary),
very weak. No wonder, our democracy has become very wobbly.
When the edifice of democracy is unstable,
it is bound to adversely affect the other two
pillars also. Just as “Honesty is the best policy” has become a cliched adage, “Democracy
is the best policy” has lost its virtue due to trampling of ethical values and righteousness by the
elected members or representatives. Any policy bereft of principles becomes a mockery.

Boat registration process to commence for fishermen

URAN: The fishermen will have to register their boats. This
instruction has been
passed on to the regional officers. This is
learnt from a reply given by the state fishing
business minister
Eknath Khadse to a
query.
The Ragaid District
Fishing Central Coop-
erative Sangh has cited that certificates
have not been issued for
the last six months to
the fishermen. This
has resulted in massive loss for the fishermen. The VRC issuance has been stopped
to the boats used for
fishing. In view of the
same, the fishermen
could not go in to the
sea for fishing purpose.
The minister has
assured to take immediate action, whatever
required, keeping in
mind the loss being incurred to the fishermen. The minister has
agreed that as VRC has
not been issued it is affecting the fishing community. The state government is considering
amending the state Sea
Fishing Act.
Accordingly, the regional offices have been
issued directives to accept the registration of
fishing boats. The issue has been affecting
the fishing folk as their
livelihood is affected.
Hope the issue will
soon be resolved as
fishing during the current season fetches
good income for the
fishermen.

Koparkhairane will get a fire station

NAVI MUMBAI: Koperkhairane was always badly in need of a
fire station in its vicinity. Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporator, a
few days back, came up
with a good
news that Koperkhairane
would get a fire
station. This
pleased the
residents of
Koperkhairane
to a great extent. NMMC has also
found a contractor who
has been assigned the
job of constructing the
fire station at Koperkhairane. More
than Rs 7 crores has
been sanctioned for construction of this fire
station.
Once the fire station
gets constructed, 23
sectors in Koperkhairane will benefit. Other
places which will benefit are Ghansoli, Mahape,
Adavali,
Bhutavali, Pawane,
Khairne
and
Bonkhode.
These are places
which have many residences, schools, colleges, industries, factories
and corporate offices.
This being a
commercial
area, a fire
station was
urgently
needed here
since there is
always a danger of fire
breaking out here.
The construction
work of fire station to
get completed will take
more than one and a
half year. The fire station will consist of
parking space for fire
engines and enough
space to accommodate
staff members, and also
within the premises of
the station there will be
residences built for the
fire officers.

Karnataka calls the shot
Karnataka Ranji Trophy side is going great
guns for the last two seasons together and its
overall performance for the last 6 years has been
outstanding. The team combination, mindset
of the players and co-ordination - all add to the
success of the team. Captain Vinay Kumar deserves all the praise for handling a stupendous
side with grit and determination against the
likes of Mumbai and Tamil Nadu Sides.
The way Karnataka dismissed Mumbai for
a paltry 44 on the first day of the semi-final
and later sustained the show to achieve an
emphatic win over 40 time champion - all add
colour to their significant success. Tamil Nadu
side was at its end when they were shot out for
134 on the first day of the five day final and
that gave them the edge to make a match of it
and they made it beyond the reach of the opposition with superlative batting performance. It
was total team work that paved the way for an
innings win. Tamil Nadu on the other hand
waiting for 28 years for elusive win in Ranji
Trophy failed at the altar. Having kept them
under check on the first day, TN side lost the
initiative and thereafter was fighting against
the wall for the rest of the match.
Kudos to Karnataka side for achieving the
major Trophy in the domestic circuit! But the
pathetic thing is that none of the players are in
the World cup side down under. This is hard to
digest as the Karnataka bowling attack is considered as the best in the country. Anyway, it’s
all in the game.

The Legal Advisor & Joint Secretary, Law & Judiciary Department Mantralaya,
Mumbai, vide his D.O. letter No. DGP-2015/CR-84/D-4, Dt.16/3/2015, has invited
applications in prescribed forms from eligible candidates for the appointment to the
posts of District Government Pleader and Public Prosecutor and Assistant
Government Pleaser and Additional Pubic Prosecutor. The Collector and District
magistrate will prepare a panel of eligible candidates as per the provisions order XXVII
of the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908, (V of 1908), Section 24 (3) of the Code of
Criminal Procedure, 1973 (II of 1974) and Rule 13 of the Maharashtra Law Officers
(Appointment, Conditions of Service and Remuneration) Rules, 1984 and the amendment
made vide notification dated 03/02/2015 and corrigendum to this notification dated 13/
02/2015.
2. The required qualification and eligibility criteria for the said posts will be as per the
provisions of the Rule 11 of Maharashtra Law Officers (Appointment, conditions of
Services and Remuneration) Rules 1984 as mentioned below:1) Applicant must be Citizen of India.
2) Applicant must hold a degree in Law from any recognized university and enrolled
as an Advocate with the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa.
3) Applicant must not be more than 55 years of age on the date of appointment.
4) Applicant must hold at least 7 years’ experience of practice as an Advocate on the
date of application.
3. The applicant who desire to apply for the above posts may submit the applications in
the prescribed form annexed herewith.
1) The applications should be addressed to the Collector and District magistrate,
District – Thane and should be submitted by hand delivery. The last date of
submission of applications is 31st March, 2015.
2) The application will not be accepted after the due date and time. The incomplete
and unreadable applications will not be considered as well.

/ testimonials.
4) The canvassing in any form by any candidate shall incur disqualification.
5) The selection of the candidates will be made by the way of interview. The date
