Wednesday, 18 March, 2015.]
Exhibitors in Pavilion section must enclose a stamped selfaddressed envelope for return of Exhibit Numbers.
All entries, except Pot Plants, must be less than 3 years old the
day of the show. The Society will exercise all reasonable care for
work submitted, but will not be responsible for any damage or loss
to exhibits whilst in their custody.
All exhibits must be staged between 12:00 noon and 4:00pm Thursday, 19 March, 2015
The pavilion will be open for inspection to the Public on Saturday
from 9am to 4pm, and will reopen approx 4:30pm for the exhibits
to be collected.
The Society may place exhibits into the correct classes, if the
exhibit is considered to be in the wrong class.
Limit of 4 entries in each class by any one person.
Late entries will not be accepted. Limit of 3 Photos.
Prize cards will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd
Novice Sections - The exhibitor must not have won in a similar
section Agricultural Show.

90g (3oz) chopped blanched almonds ½ teaspoon vanilla essence
1/3 cup sherry or brandy ½ teaspoon almond essence
250g (8oz ) plain flour ½ teaspoon lemon essence OR finely grated
lemon rind
60g (2oz) self raising flour
4 large eggs
Here is what you do:
1) Mix together all the fruits and nuts and sprinkle with sherry or
brandy. Cover, leave for at least 1 hour, but preferably over night.
2) Sift together the flours and spices. Cream together the butter
and sugar with the essences. Add the eggs one at a time, beating
well after each addition, then alternately add the fruit and flour
mixtures. Mix thoroughly. The mixture should be stiff enough to
support a wooden spoon.
3) Place the mixture into a prepared square tin, 20cm (8”), no
rounded corners and bake in a slow oven for approximately 3½-4
hours. Allow the cake to cool in the tin.
NOTE: To ensure uniformity and depending upon the size, it is
suggested the raisins be snipped into 2-3 pieces, cherries into 4 or
6 pieces and the almonds crosswise into 3 or 4 pieces.

The following recipe is compulsory for all entrants in this section.

375g (12oz) mixed fruit
½ cup sherry
¾ cup brown sugar
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 teaspoon mixed spice
2 tablespoons marmalade
½ cup water

An exhibitor having won at an Agricultural show, will be required
to bake another cake for entry in the Group Final, winner of Group
final will be required to bake a further cake for State Final at the
next Royal Melbourne Show. An exhibitor having won at show level
is not eligible to enter any other show in this section, until after
group judging when, if not the winning entry, can compete further.
An exhibitor having won group level cannot compete further until
after the Royal Melbourne Show. Each cake entered must be the
bona fide work of the exhibitor.

Here is what you do:
1. Place the Sunbeam mixed fruit, sugar, spice, water and butter in
a large saucepan and bring to boil. Simmer gently for 3 minutes,
remove from heat, add bicarbonate soda, and allow to cool.
2. Add the sherry, eggs and marmalade, mixing well.
3. Fold in the sifted dry ingredients, then place in a greased and
lined 20cm (8”) round cake tin.
4. Bake in a moderately slow oven, for 1½ hours or until cooked
when tested.

3. Sift dry ingredients into a large bowl; stir in dates, carrots. Then
add the combined marmalade, oil, eggs, juice and milk. Mix until
just combined

Must use this recipe, not to be iced
Olive oil, to grease cake pan;
3 (about 350g) carrots;
1 cup (150g) self-raising flour;
1/2 cup (75g) plain flour;
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda;
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon;
1/2 cup (80g) brown sugar;
1/2 cup (125ml) oil;
1/2 cup (125ml) golden syrup;
3 eggs;
1 tsp vanilla essence;
½ cup walnuts.
Here is what you do:
1. Preheat oven to 170°C. Grease a 20cm (base) round cake pan
lightly with oil, and line with non-stick baking paper. Peel and
grate the carrots, and set aside.
2. Sift the flours, bicarbonate of soda and cinnamon into a large
bowl.
3. Put the brown sugar, oil, golden syrup, eggs and vanilla
essence, in a separate bowl. Use a balloon shape whisk to mix
until combined.
4. Pour the oil mixture into the dry ingredients. Use a wooden
spoon to stir gently until just combined.
5. Stir in the grated carrot and walnuts.
6. Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and bake for 1 hour. Set
aside for 5 minutes, before turning out onto a wire rack to cool
completely. Hint for exhibitors lay a tea towel over the cake rack
before turning the cake out to prevent the imprint of the cake
rack appearing on your competition cake.

18 years & under, must use this recipe
Carrot and Date Muffins
2 ½ cups Self-raising flour;
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon;
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg;
1 cup brown sugar (firmly packed)
1/3 cup pitted dates;
1 cup coarsely grated carrot;
1 tablespoon orange marmalade;
1 cup canola oil;
2 eggs
¾ cup orange juice;
1 cup reduced fat milk;
Icing sugar for dusting
Here is what you do:
4. Spoon mixture evenly into prepared pan holes (cases)
5. Cook for 20 minutes, (to test muffins are cooked inserted cake
skewer. If it comes out clean the muffins are ready
6. Stand muffins in pan for 5 minutes then turn out onto a wire rack
to cool
7. Serving Suggestion: Serve warm or cold dusted with sifted icing
sugar

REGULATIONS: These regulations apply to Classes - 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

one Group at State level.
3. The Melbourne Group 14 winner of the current show will
compete as a finalist in the following Royal Show.
4. The garment having won at a show will compete in a Group final.
5. A garment having won at State Final is no longer eligible to

6. Each garment entered must be the bona fide work of the
