ASHP Foundation Announces 2015 Recipients of the Pharmacy Resident Practice-Based Research
Grants
BETHESDA, MD (March 26, 2015) ― The ASHP Research and Education Foundation announced today
that funding has been awarded to pharmacy resident researchers who seek to improve patient care by
optimizing pharmacists’ roles. These studies will address a number of critical healthcare issues, including
hepatitis C, hyperglycemia, oral anticoagulants, dyslipidemia therapy, and antimicrobial stewardship
programs. The researchers are recipients of the 2015 ASHP Foundation Pharmacy Resident PracticeBased Research Grant Program.
This program, which is supported by the ASHP Foundation, encourages practice-based research related to
the assumptions, beliefs and recommendations from the October 2010 Pharmacy Practice Model Initiative
(PPMI) Summit. The overarching goal of the PPMI is to ensure that pharmacists participate on
interdisciplinary patient care teams as the health professionals who are responsible and accountable for
patients’ medication outcomes. A secondary goal of the program is to develop pharmacy residents’
research skills while fostering development of mentoring relationships with more experienced senior
investigators.
“This grant program is part of the ASHP Foundation’s overall efforts to advance pharmacy practice
models and patient care through support of high-quality research that validates important pharmacist
interventions,” said Stephen J. Allen, M.S., FASHP, ASHP Foundation chief executive officer.
