Virginia Society Plans Five Dedications to Virginia War of 1812 Veterans
All of these are open to the public and all society officers and members are encouraged to
participate
May 16, 2015: Masonic Cemetery in Fredericksburg, VA
This event will honor War of 1812 veterans and Revolutionary War patriots interred or
memorialized in the historic cemetery A plaque mounted upon on a pole will be installed just
inside the entrance gate listing nineteen War of 1812 veterans and twenty Revolutionary War
patriots, The event will be sponsored by the Virginia Society Sons of the American Revolution
and the Society of the War of 1812 in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Masonic Lodge,

May 23, 2015 at Fort Meigs in Perrysburg Ohio.
The placement of a granite monument at Fort Meigs, Perrysburg, OH, will list Virginia’s war
dead in Ohio from General Joel Leftwich’s Virginia Brigade and from the Petersburg Volunteers.
The design has been approved by Fort Meigs and has been approved and will be fully funded by
the Virginia War of 1812 Bicentennial Commission. These are the names that died in the battle
there or in Ohio at the approximate time of the battle:

The War of 1812 Society in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Thomas Nelson Jr Chapter,
Virginia Society Sons of the American Revolution will honor two War of 1812 veterans and two
Revolutionary War veterans at 10 am. The 1812 veterans are sons of the Revolutionary War
veterans and their gravestones in the cemetery are adjacent to each other. Individual grave
markers from each society are planned to be unveiled. The names and information about them

This will be a joint ceremony with the Virginia Society Sons of the American Revolution and the
Society of the War of 1812 in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Two separate plaques are planned
with each to be mounted on a pole in the cemetery. The names for each plaque that are
recommended for placement on each plaque are shown. Final approval of the names from the
church officials are pending
