Welcome to the third issue of Cove Point Connection, an
informative newsletter produced for the local community and
those interested in Cove Point liquefaction project progress
and updates. The newsletter will be published quarterly and
contain project information such as milestone highlights,
construction updates and notification about any potential
impacts to the public.

Construction Update
The Cove Point Liquefaction Project continued to
progress through the winter and into spring. Snow
and rain can often affect construction projects, but
the Cove Point team found ways to work through
weather challenges and meet project milestones.
One milestone in particular is completing the first
phase of Offsite Area A (OAA). More than 100,000
cubic yards of dirt was excavated to make way for
the temporary construction offices and parking
areas. You can expect to see OAA in use this
month.
Once the lot is in use, you may notice more
vehicles at Route 2/4 and Cove Point Rd. The
construction team is working with the State
Highway Administration to ensure safe signaling
and traffic flow. We ask all drivers to be alert for
vehicles exiting Offsite Area A traveling east
through the intersection toward the Cove Point
Terminal site. Please be cautious and yield to
oncoming traffic.
We also have begun work on the foundation for the
permanent sound wall, which should start taking
shape this summer. The sound wall construction
schedule is being expedited to help minimize the
noise impact on our neighbors. Once the

foundation is complete, precast posts and panels
will be installed.
Large Load Transport Update
Some of you may have heard about the detailed
planning
underway
for
transporting
large
equipment. These transports are an important part
of the Cove Point Liquefaction Project.
The transports are scheduled to begin in May and
will involve the Calvert County Sheriff, Maryland
State Police, State Highway Administration and
Emergency
Responders.
An
extensive
communication outreach will be implemented to
make certain that the public and our neighbors will
be aware of when loads will be transported here.
The largest pieces of equipment will arrive by barge
at the temporary pier at Offsite Area B in Solomons.
From there, they will be moved on specially
designed transport vehicles up Maryland Route 2/4
to the main terminal on Cove Point Road.
Upcoming Activities
• Parking will be partially available at Offsite Area A in
mid-April
• Beginning use of Offsite Area A for office and parking
• Beginning of Large Load Transports
• Beginning installation of permanent soundwall
• Five tower cranes are expected on the project this month
