From the Presidents Pen...
Since our last dinner meeting we have had a Leo get together although not
large, it was enjoyed by all.
April started with our Royal Children’s Hospital Appeal, and again the
community and our visitors dug deep for the cause.
Well done to Amber and all her little helpers, Janette, Bill, Peter, Laurie,
Wendy & Steph, and any others I have not mentioned for a job well done.
Congratulations to our wonderful Hospital for an outstanding result and the
breakfast enjoyed by many. Another thank you to all involved.
In an other matter, any ideas for another day out would be welcomed.
Tonight we have the privilege to welcome two new members, Wendy
Lunghusen and Stephanie Ibbs, I’m sure you will join me in welcoming them
into our Club, and help them to find there feet in our great organisation.

YOUTH PROJECTS
YOUTH OF THE YEAR.
The culmination of many Club; Regional
and District Finals resulted in the Victoria
State Final of the Lions Youth of the Year,
which was held in Ballarat on Saturday
11th April 2015.
The five V District Youth of the Year
Winners gathered in Ballarat for the next
stage of this amazing journey they had
embarked on many months before.
Master of Ceremonies, Lion Doug Kneen
ensured the evening ran smoothly and
successfully.
The contestants were; John Brodie representing the Lions Club of Buninyong
Mt Helen (District V1-4); Emma Missen representing the Lions Club of Footscray
(District V2); Emma Wiggins representing the Lions Club of Mt Eliza
(District V3); Bronwyn Kealy representing the Lions Club of Warrandyte
(District V5) and Winona Horton representing the Lions Club of Albury
(District V6).
YOUTH EXCHANGE
Jordan Nicholson travelled to Europe as an
Exchange Student with Lions International in
2014-15.
He came along to our March dinner meeting to
let us all know about his experiences travelling
around Europe. He did actually have a problem
with his luggage deciding to head off on a
different holiday on its own.
A slide show of the magnificent buildings dating
back hundreds of years gave us all a glimpse of
the towns where he had stayed, shopped and
ate.

Youth Exchange
The Lions International
2013-14 State Winner - Ashleigh
Rogers, had the pleasure of presenting
Emma Wiggins 2014-15 State Winner with
the State Shield.
Emma will now represent Victoria at the
National Final in Newcastle in May.
Youth Exchange Program
was established in 1961 to
give youth an opportunity
to travel to exciting
international destinations
for up to six weeks.
Whilst overseas, the youth
live with one or more
families associated with Lions International to
experience first-hand a new culture, lifestyle
and customs.
Unlike some exchange programs, the Lions
Youth Exchange Program does not involve
tourism, academic studies or employment.
The aim of the program is “to create and
foster a spirit of understanding among
the peoples of the world”.

March Madness - “Bad Tie Night”
had collected, and who collected the most.
The award goes to Wendy and her team
around the Caravan Park, she must have
them all scared, well done.
Our March “Bad Tie” dinner meeting was a
great success. There were some doosies,
from Sydney Swans to Leopard bow ties, the
winner was Marg McLennan with her bow tie.

Our meal was pies from the new “Red Gum
Bakery’ in Leitchville, a great assortment was
on hand for all to enjoy. Thanks to Malcolm,
Marg and Jeanette for organising the meal.
A great turn out, and a good night had by all.
During the day, for the first time in memory,
the Brigade was called out to a paddock fire,
before they left, Bruce made sure Wendy was
not in the kitchen.
Thanks to Captain Bruce and CFA members
for the use of their building once again and
the assistance during the day.

Good Friday Appeal
Once again Cohuna and those visiting our
area, have exceeded expectations, and dug
deep for this worthwhile cause.
What a great result, $13,260.74, a record
high for our area.
Thanks to all those who helped out on the
day, collecting around the streets, in the
shops and out the bush around the camps.

group returning keen to know how much they

Cohuna District Hospital celebrated after patients gave
it the thumbs up.

CFA Renovations begin......
CFA Captain Bruce attended our Business
meeting on Thursday night to keep the
members informed on the CFA rebuild.

The scout hall was booked and food and drink
arranged, ready for a fun weekend. We had the use
of the equipment at the hall, so it wasn’t long before
the canoes were in the water, despite the day being
cold.
It was a lot of fun, look forward to next year.........

order of the night. Emily proved to be just way too
good, guessing some, no one
had any idea about.
Sleeping proved to be a bit
of a problem as there was
just so too energy left, so a
game of ‘caterpillars’ was
made up. Leos in their
sleeping bags had to get
from one end of the hall to
the other. Mat had no hope
of sleeping.
While Michelle
helped Emily,
Hanna and
Mikayla out with
serving,
Emily later had
a go on a skate
board with good
results, no
broken bones!
The Leos acted as waitresses at the Golf Club
Dinner Dance and did a great job. Thanks to soon to
be Lion, Steph for her help on the night.
