ALBANY STATE UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL WORK 2nd Bi-Annual INTERNATIONAL SOCIAL WORK CONFERENCE “International Social Work in the 21st Century: Collaboration is the Key to Success!” KEYNOTE SPEAKER Dr. Martine Pierre-Pierre, Director of Field Education, Barry University SPECIAL GUEST PRESENTATION Mr. Rodney Johnson An internationally recognized comedian who has made appearances on the Oprah Winfrey show, Comedy Central, BET, The Apollo, Good Morning America and Star Search ALBANY STATE UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL WORK’S SECOND BI-ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL SOCIAL WORK CONFERENCE Since the first social work class was offered in the summer of 1898 at Columbia University, social workers have led the way in addressing the needs of society and bringing our nation’s social problems to the public’s attention. The Department of Social Work in efforts to remain in sync with the values of the profession, would like to continue in the spirit of collaborating with local and global communities, private, public and non-profit organizations to be a beacon of light for those who are in need and to bring about positive change for those who have lost hope. The international social work conference is one of many endeavors that will support the efforts that are geared towards advocacy and mitigation of the continued violence and injustices in the world. Featured international , national and regional speakers will address many of the world’s social problems and concerns including poverty, homelessness, human trafficking, immigration and the impact on the department of family and children services, the war on terrorism and post-traumatic stress disorder, global connections via educational endeavors and the phenomenon of laughter as a universal language. Conference Venue The ASU Billy Black (ACAD) auditorium is located on the beautiful campus of Albany State University across from the Public Safety Department. The intersection of Radium Springs Road and Joseph Holly Dr. provides the landmark for the location of the event.
