PRODUCTIONSALE Friday, April 3, 2015
41 Thursday, March 19, 2015 WESTERN AG REPORTER Now here’s a nice winter shot of the first string of cows coming to the feed truck at Q Livestock near Terry, Montana. Thanks to Donna Faber for sharing! Section Six Heads up! Montana DOL changes Board date & time & location By Lisa Schmidt Readers who want to attend the March Department of Livestock board meeting need to reschedule. The meeting will be held next Monday and Tuesday, March 23 and 24, instead of the originally scheduled March 25 and 26. Also, the board meeting will take place at the Scott Hart Auditorium at 302 North Roberts in Helena instead of the original location of the conference room at the department offices. Agenda items include budget updates by George Harris, administrator of centralized services within the department; an update on the Designated Surveillance Area administrative rule; and an update on rule changes regarding authorization of the State Vet to grant health certificate waivers to livestock coming into Montana. State Veterinarian Marty Zaluski also will talk about actions the department has taken to take care of brucellosis-infected cattle herds. Tuesday’s portion of the meeting agenda includes an hour for a performance evaluation of executive officer Christian Mackay. The board meeting will start at 1 p.m. on Monday and finish up at noon on Tuesday. Agenda items can be added or removed until 48 hours before the meeting. Visit http:// liv.mt.gov/public/board.mcpx for the latest posted agenda. To receive all notices regarding the Montana DOL, send an email to Christian MacKay at [email protected] and ask to be put on the “List of Concerned People.” Don’t miss this! Building our local economy with MT food Join us for a talk by preeminent farm and food system analyst Ken Meter, an economics professor at Harvard University. The event is hosted by Northern Plains Resource Council (NPRC) and its Billings affiliate, Yellowstone Valley Citizens Council. The event takes place Tuesday, March 31, at 6:30 p.m. at the Billings Public Library in the Community Room. Light refreshments will be served. Meter will present a picture of the food system around Yellowstone County and highlight the possibilities for building vibrant local food economies. From food security to business development opportunities, Meter shows how supporting our regional food system can help us all grow. If you have any questions, contact NPRC by email at [email protected] or by phone at 406-248-1154.
