AGL Power Advantage. Increase your potential savings with a solar battery system from AGL. How can home solar battery storage benefit me? Solar battery storage units allow the storage of excess solar energy produced by your solar system, so it can be used when you need it instead of being exported back to the grid. Batteries also help reduce peak power costs by using stored energy to supplement any energy demand that is greater than what your solar panels can produce. By doing this, you can avoid consuming more energy from the grid, reducing your energy costs. Finally, a battery storage unit can provide emergency power for selected critical appliances such as your refrigerator and lighting, in case of any grid supply interruption. How does it work? > When your home energy demand is lower than the output from your solar panels, the excess power that would otherwise be exported to the grid is stored in the battery. As you start to consume more power than what your solar system can produce the battery will start to supply any stored power (up to the limit of your inverter capacity) and reduce or eliminate your import from the grid. > Once the battery has fully discharged all of its stored energy, any additional energy required will be drawn from the grid, ensuring supply is not interrupted. > Stored energy supply depends on your system capacity, how much excess solar energy was exported that day and how much your household appliances are consuming during the charging and the discharging of the battery. Did you know? You can monitor your storage system (solar production, battery usage and grid usage) using the Energy Optimiser on the system front panel. It is also possible to access this information online. AGL solar battery storage. Frequently asked questions: How long will the solar battery last? The battery is designed to last for up to 5,000 cycles or a total of 10 years (whichever occurs first). What is the capacity of the battery? The battery has a total storage limit of 7.2kWh with 6kWh available for use, which is approximately 80% depth of discharge. (100% discharge of batteries will lead to a reduced lifespan). The battery has been designed to discharge at a maximum rate of 3kW. The time it will take to use this will vary, based on your consumption (e.g. 2 hours if your demand is 3kW, or 6 hours if your demand is 1kW). If you require more than 3kW of power, the surplus is purchased from the grid. How long does it take to charge? The maximum charging power available (4.5kW) would require at least 80 minutes of uninterrupted solar energy production to fully charge. The capacity of your solar panels, fluctuations in solar energy production as well as the amount of energy used to power your appliances - will result in charging taking longer. Will the battery charge on a cloudy day? If your solar system is not producing enough energy to charge the battery, you can purchase power from the grid. Where can I install a solar battery? The battery will need to be installed in an indoor storage area, with adequate ventilation (30cm clearance on the sides and 70cm in front of the unit) and in a temperature of no more than 40°C. Ideally it should be situated close to your electricity distribution panel (we recommend an enclosed garage). What size is a solar battery? The battery is 672mm x 384mm x 682mm and weighs 140kg.
