Answer the following questions:
1-Why does Higgins say “Thank God it is over.”
Higgins said that when they returned from the party. No one knew
the reality of Eliza Doolittle. She succeeded in the exam. (The party)
2- What does Eliza blame Higgins on?
She blamed him on treating her carelessly as a project not as a
human being. She thinks that he never cared for her even if she was
dead.
3- What does Higgins say about Eliza’s belongings?
He said that she could take everything except for the rented
jewels.
4- Describe Eliza’s appearance when she came back after the
party?
After they came back from the party, Eliza looked silent & sad. She
brought Higgins slippers, however he didn’t notice her.
5- What does colonel Pickering want to do to find Eliza?
He wanted to set a reward for the police to find Eliza.
6- How does Doolittle become one of the middle class?
Doolittle accused Higgins of making him a middle classman. Higgins
jokingly recommended his name to Mr Wannafeller ( American millionairelanguage fanatic) given millions to establish moral society reform league.
He died and left Doolittle an annual income of 3000 pounds a year on a
condition that he would lecture six times at the league. Thus Doolittle held
Higgins responsible for ruining his life & making him a gentleman.

7- How does Mrs Higgins feel sympathy for Eliza?
Mrs Higgins knew that Higgins treated her not as a human being but as a
project , so when Eliza left Higgins ‘ house she went to Mrs Higgins . Mrs
Higgins told him that the girl has a perfect right to leave if she wanted to
so.
8-What does Higgins tell his mother about Eliza ?
That Eliza has left his house & left .she left while he was sleeping & Mrs
Pearce was foolish that she left her go without saying a word . she threw the
slippers .
9-Why does colonel Pickering ask Eliza to forgive Higgins ?
Because he treated her brutally not as a girl with feelings & thinking.
Colonel asked her to forgive Higgins .she compares between the
colonel’s treating to her from the very beginning with courtesy and
good manners that made her feel that she was better than a scullery
maid . she says that the different between a flower girl and a lady is
not how she behaves , but how she is treated . she will always be the
flower girl to Higgins .But she can be a lady to Pickering because he
treats her like a lady .
10-What are the reasons given by Higgins that urge Eliza to
come back?
That she would go back to her old Cockney accent within three
weeks if she doesn’t have his guide. Then he tells her also that he was
accustomed to her appearance.
11-What does Eliza return to Higgins ? what does he do ?
As a result of Higgins’ treatment to Eliza she asked him what to give
him back .she gives him the jewellery (rented) & the ring which he
had bought her from his money . He takes the ring & throws it in to
the ashtray .

12- What does Eliza tell Higgins about Freddy ?
That she was going to marry him because he cares much about her &
respects her.
13-Eliza became a duchess and yet she wasn’t happy. Discuss
Higgins transformed Eliza to a duchess .she succeeded in the party how
ever she wasn’t very happy after it was over , she thought how she would
go back to her old life more she was treated brutally by Higgins .she
thought he never cared for her .
14-What does Eliza tell Higgins about Freddy ?
Eliza told Higgins that she is going to marry Freddy because he cares
much her & he loves her treating her like a lady .
15-Why did Eliza feel thankful (grateful) towards colonel Pickering ?
Eliza felt thankful for colonel Pickering as he treated her well , he
made her feel as a lady his treatment to her gave her self confident
unlike Higgins’ treatment who treated her not as a human being but as
a project .
16- The relation ship between Higgins and Eliza is the relation
between the master and his creator .Discuss
Higgins is like master who created his piece of work .Higgins thinks
Eliza belongs to him entirely as he made (created her from nothing )
Poor flower Cockney girl to a duchess . He tells that he is used to
having her around. She tells him that he can use the gramophone
Higgins treats her from that point of view a master to creation .
17-Why was Doolittle miserable after being made a gentleman?
Alfred Doolittle became a gentleman by Higgins talking jokingly to one
of his acquaintance, who left him an annual income that changed him from
a dust man to a middle class gentleman. Doolittle declares that he had
been victim to middle class morality.

Comment on the following :
1-“tell Mrs Pearce not to make coffee for me in the morning . I’ll
take tea.”
This was said by Higgins to Eliza after coming back from the party .
Higgins never cared for Eliza’s feelings .she was furious with him however
he didn’t notice & tell the above words.
2-“what might have you to go to the police and give the girls name as
if she were a thief. “
This was said by Mrs Higgins to Higgins & Pickering .she blamed
Pickering because he wanted to offer a reward for finding Eliza as if was
thief or something lost.
3-“you and I and Pickering will be three old bachelors together
instead of only two men and a silly girl.”
This was said by Higgins to Eliza .He wants to show her that it is
impossible for him to marry her as he can’t forget the fact that she was
a common flower cockney girl .he told her that it’s better for them all to
remain unmarried.
4- “I will marry Freddy, I will as soon as he ‘s able to support me “
This was said by Eliza to Higgins she tells him that she will marry Freddy
as he would probably make her happy .
5-“instead of going to bed ,she changed her clothes and went right
off.”
This was said by Higgins to his mother telling her that Eliza has
escaped. He didn’t know that Eliza escaped to Mrs Higgins .Mrs Pearce
was foolish to let her go without a word .

This was said by Higgins to Pickering after coming back from the party
Higgins & Pickering were celebrating because they have been successful in
transforming Eliza to a Duchess. Higgins said that the whole thing has
been a bore, he would have given up the whole idea except that he had
waged a bet.
7-“ you might want them for the next girl you pickup to experiment
on “.
This was said by Eliza to Higgins she asks him which things belong to
her & which don’t .she told him that they might use these things for the
next girl she told him that so she wouldn’t be accused of stealing them.
8-“I can’t change my nature and I don’t intend to change my
manners.”
This was said by Higgins to Eliza telling her that he would treat her as
before and he wouldn’t change his manners.
9-“because I wanted to smash your face .I’d like to kill you selfish
brute “.
This was said by Eliza to Higgins after the party .she throws the
slippers at his face ,she was furious with Higgins because he didn’t have
feelings for her. She considered him a very selfish person who only cares
about himself.
10-“well, I’m afraid she won’t go back to Wimpole street .”
This was said by Mrs Higgins to Higgins & Pickering .she told them that
Eliza came to her complaining of the brutal way which Higgins treated her
.Mrs Higgins told them that instead of thanking & praising Eliza for her
hard word they only talked about their success.
